Met, no reason to be sorry, I think you were just doing what all reasonable people do, trying to make sense out of it. The whole thing is just so awful, it seems unreal.
(He had a live in g/f for the last couple of years...before that, he lived in those mobile homes up Carlanna in KTN)....I'm glad he's going to, hopefully, stay in jail...just like everyone else really sad that this wasn't found out sooner.
Met, he knew what he was doing and he was good at it. As a predator, I mean.
he was one of those people that are everywhere, all the time, into everything. It's intimidating.
I'm not sure that anyone who had the power to stand up to him actually knew about it.
If the person fixing his computer hadn't notified the authorities, I'm sure this disgusting POS would have continued with his sick ways until they buried his sorry a$$.
I'm sure others knew about it, but he appears to be a man of influence and money. In a small town that's enough to buy the silence of some people.
What bothers me the most, Wrennie, is that a few people at least had to have known about this and chose to remain silent.
It's not that they chose to remain silent. It's that they didn't want to believe what they suspected. I never liked the guy. Something about him just seemed creepy.
How do you know that he "destroyed" anyones life? Have you asked any of the victims? Have they said that their life has been destroyed? Or is this hyperbole you are using?
Why are you defending and giving cover to a convicted pedophile?
Stiff, were you ever a cop in Ketch? Did you ever hear rumors or anything?
No, I was retired by the time we moved there. Never heard anything from my cop buddies there about Shay. That's typical though of these types of pervs. That build up trust in the community over a period of time, which Shay was very good at. Then if somethings happens people dismiss it as just a misunderstanding.
Take the case of Normand Dupre also of Ketchikan. He ran a photography shop there in Ketchikan. He was on the Board of Directors for the hospital and involved in all kinds of civic stuff. You'd just see him everywhere.
Turns out he had hidden cameras in the changing room in his studio. There was some other stuff that he was also accused of. That guy really gave me the creeps.
Why are you defending and giving cover to a convicted pedophile?
Huh? How could anything I posted be construed as "defending" pedophiles? All I asked was how could anyone know that the victims lives have been destroyed? Children are amazingly resilient - and it is wrong to paint all child porn victims with a broad brush and say that their lives have been "destroyed". Again, how do you know that this has occurred? You don't, but it is easy to say so and it will almost never be challenged and when it is - you react by calling the challenger a "defender of child molestors". Some really shallow thinking is going on there.
If you really want to get to some semblace of the truth - I suggest that you conduct a study - find a group of perhaps 25 children who have been child porn or molestation victims, define what indications you would need to see to describe their life as "destroyed", let them grow up, and in 30 years do some interviews and take an inventory of what their life is like. I believe that you will find very few "destroyed" lives and of those many will have been impacted very little by their childhood experiences.
To much work? Fine - in the meantime - learn to avoid generalizations that are speculative at best and blatantly false at worst. Stick with the facts.
