i like a lot of the features- i always mark the location of photos on the map they provide for you. i find it interesting when other people do that, makes it easy to satisfy your curiosity about certain areas.

There is no difference in the leg locking collars, as both have the same ("completely redesigned") G-Lock mechanism.

The differences are that the top plate for the 1 version is rubberized and has a locking set screw, plus there are three rather than two preset positions for leg spread.

For those who wish to examine Gitzo's CF tripods, the "code" that explains their current tripods is:

GT-XXyzAA where XX is the load rating (15, 20, 35, etc), y indicates the number leg sections, and z is the release version (0, 1, 2 etc). AA represents several possible letters: none is the default base (which with the GT353x model indicates that it comes with an integral center column), an S means it is a "Systematic" version with a flat plate rather than a center column (which is optionally available), L indicates "long", XL is for "extra long" and LVL means it has a leveling head. A V otherwise indicates it has a video head bowl mount.

Remember I am an amateur...love taking pictures though. Here's a pic of the morning sky a couple weeks ago. I took it from my front porch so the flowers you see in left hand corner was my hanging flower pot....that is before the snow came.
