This was an interesting and entertaining thread, until someone came along to preach.

It was quite predicable, yes.

Our country was founded by Protestants who wanted the separation of Church and State, who came here to avoid religious persecution. They understood there were more then one type of religion in the world and wanted the New World be to a place where people were free to practice any religion they choose. How can we have only one religion represented in Schools (ie: chirstianity) when there are dozens of religions now days? Is that fair to the Jewish? The Muslim? The Pagan? The Buddist? etc..

I think we need a sub-forum here where Preacher Eve's ravings can be contained. Some of us are tired of him ruining our discussions.

Yes, very good point, it's not fair. I could go on a rant about this, but wont.

Not exactly true. The pilgrims were being persecuted in England, that much is true. However, they did not come to the New World to escape religious persecution. First, they migrated to Holland where they were not persecuted. However, they also did not like the Netherlands because they tolerated other religions. The pilgrims came to the New World so they did not have to tolerate other religions. Religious freedom is NOT what the pilgrims were about, nor did they want separation between church and State. Those concepts would come much later.

The Pilgrims did not found this county. They were merely some of the first settlers. Unfortunately their fanatical ideals still hold too much sway even to this day.

Yup. Plus, I practice apatheism, and being an anti-theist sounds like way too much work.

Ummm... "In God We Trust" is not inscribed in all courthouses.
