Not if I have any say in the matter!

We'll immediately show you where you don't want to be taking hikes! Of course that is advice that everyone in town will be willing to offer, just as we do to virtually all visitors and new arrivals.

Anyone who takes you any place dangerous will know how to make sure you are safe. It'll be awhile before you'll actually be able to get yourself into trouble. :-)

If you're not familiar with large caliber hand guns I suggest you don't start with one for any kind of protection

For that, if you really think its necessary, I suggest a short shotgun with slugs...

Floyd will keep ya on track...

A Mossberg 500 pump shotgun with a short barrel (a tad over 18"), and stock (no pistol grip). Mossberg sells a 500 that comes with both a removable pistol grip and stock, and includes a short barrel. For home defense you can load it with bird shot, and for bears you can load it with slugs. However, I don't recommend 3" Magnum slugs, but shorter than 3" Mag.

That would be a lot smarter than wasting time and money on all this gun crap that everyone is throwing out. Too much testosterone, not enough gray matter...

you beat me too it, but can I please add if you get a mossberg 500 series shotgun, remove the end cap and shake out the "stick plug" and get the full capacity. Off the shelf you can only load 1 in chamber, 2 in mag.
Also +10 on ignoring the pistol grip, leave the full length stock.
BTW...the Marlin 1895 45/70 is a fav of mine.
