Yeah I have read those but maybe not the Russian climber although I have read the books by other climbers who were there in '96. Have you read Kraukauer's books about Afghanistan and Utah?

No I haven't. I need to order Discovery Channel's dvds on Everest. A friend of mine climbed Denali a few years ago from here. My hero.

Blue amber is unique, that's for sure. And expensive. The bunch of "eggs" in the picture might be worth some $15K retail... It is mined by hand from ancient sea beds that are in the mountains now. These people follow the layers digging tunnels sometimes hundreds of feet long. Work by candle light. Slow and dangerous process. I don't have a dvd burner at home so all my pics are transfered elsewhere, I'll have them home in a day or two. 8 GB

C'mon people, admitt it!!! Your mountain climbing movie addiction started with "Cliffhanger" in '93

yeowzer!!! 15K!! is it because it is rare, or difficulties in mining (or both) that it makes it worth that much money?

Top quality blue is expensive because it is rare and because there is very limited number of people having access to it. One wholesaler is this person: Blue amber, Articles on rocks and minerals, MineralTown.com
It is a nice introduction to blue amber of DR.
My friend Doug sells some too, smaller pieces usually Blue amber
His website is a blast on all things amber: ambericawest.com
