A little something from somebody A little less enamoured of Alaska as many of the posters here.

1. Too many guns
2. Too much drinking and smoking
3. Too little respect or common courtesy
4. Too many SUV's (that never see a road other than asphalt or concrete)
5. Long, cold winters
6. Long cool summers
7. Great XC skiing
8. MArginal downhill skiing (unless you're an expert )
9. Too many tourists in the summer
10. Too many drunks on 4th Ave (Anchorage)
11. Incredible scenery!
12. Lot's of friendly people
13. Lot's of people erunning away from society, other people, the law, you name it...
14. Prejudice against cheechako's (just suggest to a local how much better something is done "outside" (aka the Lower 48).
15. The most amazing railroad on the planet!
16. Breakfast at Gwennies on Spenard (again... ask a local)

I'd imagine most people coming from TX wouldn't have a problem with guns, drinking, smoking, or SUVs/trucks. Just sayin'.

i'd say any gun that you don't use regularly is one gun too many.

that is, unless you're building an arsenal for fear of some kind of invasion or takeover or government conspiracy or something like that. i hold no delusions about my rambo-ing capabilities. i own two.
