Does Arizona have any lakes for watersports and fishing?

Have you heard of Lake Mead? It's the largest man-made lake and reservoir in the United States.

Mead is pretty far from the general population.

Bartlett is the best fishing lake close to phoenix, but most of the good lakes are in northern az.

Saguaro lake is my favorite....the "beach" there is amazing! Second pick would have to be the black river....the fishing there is phenomenal...It's about a 3 hr drive from the valley but it's definitley worth it.

Lake Mead is a little far from the cities. I was wondering if there are lakes closer in.

Yes there are, including: Roosevelt, Pleasant, Saguaro, Canyon, Apache, Horseshoe, and Bartlett all within 2 hours. Horseshoe is often a mud hole. Then there's Havasu, Alamo, Martinez, and Mohave - maybe 4 hours. Roosevelt, Pleasant and Havasu are all big - 30 to 50 miles long. Then Powell and Meade about 5 hours. Those two are immense and Powell is breathtakingly beautiful. And to top it all off there are dozens of trout lakes and miles of trout streams in the mountains. There is one ski-able lake near Tucson - Patagonia. Really, a lot of boating opportunites and fishing all year 'round.

Lake Havasu is another nice to consider. Most of the fishing is done during the winter months. My Home (http://www.newtohavasu.net/ - broken link)

Lake Pleasant is a boating lake, not good for fishing.

Pleasant is a good fishery for white bass, and stripers along with the usual largemouth, bluegill, crappie, catfish etc. I've fished there dozens upon dozens of days. How about you? Fishing Pleasant can be frustrating for some because the unusually clear water and the closure of prime areas for eagle nesting makes for some challenges, but I have had good to excellent results there over the years. I get skunked now and then, but even a bad day on the water is better than the best day in the city.

It is a (too) popular boating lake, but there are few boats during the week even in the best months. All of our lakes are overcrowded on weekends. I quit going out Fri-Sun many years ago.
