Technically not scifi, even in its broadest since, but nevertheless an example of the blend of crime/mystery/action:martial arts genres & sub-genres.

Asia is a science fiction wasteland for the same reason there's no real venture capital or cutting edge startup culture here -- a dearth of the raw inventiveness necessary to spawn any of the above.

As an inventor and long-time resident of Taiwan and Japan I learned this early on. Whenever I came up with any new ideas it was as if I'd just laid a radioactive egg and everyone started heading for the exits. Enough of my crackpot ideas have worked out over the years though when all else failed that I've been elevated from village idiot to "special needs" foreigner but that's the best I'll ever do.

My best guess is this is because fear of losing face or money always trumps the thrill of invention here but that guess is still a work in progress.

Probably one of my favorite incarnations of the series, season 4 Digimon.

This series at 1st has the genres of crime & martial arts but later on adds elements of Oriental mysticism, so yes it is Asiatic sci-fi (at least in the North American broadest sense of sci-fi encompassing the science fiction, fantasy & horror genres & sub-genres).

1994 was a Watershed year for PIX, for it would be their Last Year as a Full-Fledged "Independent" TV station before they started "The WB" in 1995. It was in this year that the syndicated "Action Pack" made its debut as well...but long before shows like "Hercules" and "Xena" would make their mark, other shows tried to do the same with less than stellar results...such as this one; "Vanishing Son". This is the intro to the 2hr TV Movie/Pilot.
