I'm glad to see someone acknowledging this formally; it's frustrating how folks write it off based on what's going on at the mall without bothering to check out the rest.

That area is doing as good or better than it was at the mall's height.

Default Gwinnett commissioners give final OK for bonds to buy Gwinnett Place Mall

Quote:
Gwinnett County has cleared the final step before closing on its plans to buy the majority of Gwinnett Place Mall for redevelopment.

County commissioners voted Tuesday to issue $23.5 million in 20-year revenue bonds to buy 39 acres of property at the 36-year-old mall. The purchase does not include the Macy’s, Mega Mart, Beauty Master or old Sears anchors since those properties were owned separately from the main part of the mall.

The part of the mall that Gwinnett County is buying includes the interior retail storefronts, the former Belk anchor and the old food court.

Malls all over the US are in trouble, unfortunately, malls may be a thing of the past within the next 10 years.

So maybe we should look at those malls and see what the common factors are that allow them to thrive?

Yep. It's been talked about on this forum before.

What's happening to malls is rather irrelevant to this discussion.

I think we all agree Gwinnett Place is not going to continue its life as a traditional enclosed mall.
