After two years of searching for a home in midtown and/or Decatur I finally caved and settled for a home in Gwinnett after experiencing all of the competition that the city has to offer in regards to the real estate market While I'm not happy with the overall all county, I am happy with the price (less than 80k), the size and the potential.

Long story short, I close in a week and I've ordered my flooring. Before I put my flooring down, I would like to install bi folding patio doors (long span patio doors). Does anyone know of anyone in Atlanta that does these?

What part of Gwinnett? Why aren't you happy with the overall county?

Lilburn borderline Duluth...I probably shouldn't have said that I'm not happy with the county because then I guess it sounds like I'm not happy with the government or something more serious. I just think that it's nowhere a 20 to 30 something should live, who's single and enjoys going out as there's nothing to do. The people also seem a little backward at times. I'm not complaining because obviously I bought the home but I do however plan on saving a little more and picking up a condo in the city

When you say "bifolding patio doors" are you talking about a folding panel door like this?

Folding Glass Doors & Glass Walls | NanaWall

If so, I hope you set aside a bit chunk of the money you saved by buying an $80k house- they typically run around $800-1,000 per linear foot and require some pretty hefty structural members to create the opening.

You do realize how much alone it cost to install a normal hung quality door? Because folding glass doors go for many thousands before you even install. We have a family home in CO where we installed the type of doors you are talking about and I would not recommend spending that much money on doors on an 80k house unless the house is way under value for the neighborhood. You will probably not get your money back on them. You would be better off spending that kind of money on quality furniture you can move with.

I do not know who does them in Atlanta, they are more of a modern house thing.

I hear you. I'm in a similar boat, but on the stone mountain side of Lilburn. There seem to be alot of cheap condos in some semi-decent areas in Atlanta. They just won't be the really cool, trendy ones with skyline views, etc...

I'll let the builders here chime in on this, but if you need to replace what is there and you're concerned with a cost-resale value....

I would think you would do well with a pair of French doors. They let in alot of light, but can also both open up a larger opening to the deck/patio.

I know you're asking for specific references, but I will have to chime in on the comments above about second thinking it before you install this type of door in your area. The company I work for is construction-related FYI.

First off, if you're going to be looking for a city condo and reselling this place fairly soon, you might be overspending on it for renos with this type of door - you won't easily recoup your money because as has been pointed out, by the time you factor in the cost of the doors plus construction costs for the structural work, it really adds up. Second, these doors are actually fairly easy to break into (of course, so are French doors), so if security is a concern in your neighborhood that could be another factor.
