This could be because unlike other cities, Atlanta surrounded its MLB stadium with parking lots. The proposal for mixed-use development around the stadium could make the area more attractive to residents.
Or it could be because they built it in an already undesirable part of town. If you hide the parking lots the area isn't going to magically become nice.

Summerhill suffers from having its business district and lots of homes destroyed from having Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium being built in the 1960's. Also, what neighborhood that supports stadiums is doing well? Vine City? These areas have blank parking lots, that people not living in the neighborhood use, trash and leave. Ever seen the Turner Field parking lots after a game? Its trashed!

If any of this does get approved, the streetcar or even the subway needs to be built first.

Yea. This thread is obsolete. The Braves were not that interested in the redevelopment plans. Their owners got a pretty sweet chunk of tax money from Cobb: Atlanta Braves moving?

The good news is that the city can stay focus on other things than spending money to keep the Braves like building out transit with 3Ps. And hopefully even better development plans for this neighborhood.
