Does it really cost $160,000 (approximately $40k x four years) to get a basic four-year bachelor's degree from Morehouse College? Am I missing something?

You are probably missing the fact it is a private institution.

I know, but that still seems like an awful lot to me (even for a private institution).

Well, that and it's alot of money forth a worthless degree if the school loses accreditation again.

Pretty standard for private colleges these days, isn't it?

Think that includes housing. It's showing 22k/yr tuition. Mercer (also a private school) charges 32k and has similarly high acceptance rate. Neither of them present particularly great values unless you're already very wealthy and state schools just aren't for you.

I think you're thinking of Morris Brown. Morehouse hasn't had any such issues.

Yup. For example:

Emory is $59,908 per year.
Duke is $61,404 per year
Agnes Scott is $43,691 per year
Spelman is $37,441 per year
I won't even get in to too much in to how much the Ivies cost

Clark-Atlanta on the other hand is a bargain at $21,331...

Bottom line, an education at a private institution is extremely expensive. I just finished paying off my time at the House last year (15 years after the fact) even though I attended during the 90s when it cost half as much to go there.

While I wouldn't trade my experience for anything in the world, but if I had to do it all over again I would have probably taken my core classes at a community college and transferred for my major studies since I come from a working class family and had to pay off my college debt all on my own.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the school. Does it really provide cost adjusted returns that exceed those of going to UGA or another public school? Nothing against it as an HBCU but I'm of the mindset that mid tier to lower tier private schools are absolutely a huge waste of money unless you've got history with the school and connections with successful alumni before you step foot on campus or you've got piles of cash. Obviously they're not Devry or UoPhoenix but they aren't cheap and it's nowhere near a guarantee you'll find a job that can even service the loans.
