Hi,

I have an opportunity to move to Atlanta. I've been there before. My friend lived in Alpharetta, Which I loved, but I don't want an hour's commute.

Are there any areas with nice, newer homes between $600 and $700k that are close enough to Midtown Atlanta (eg, 30 minutes during rush hour)?

It seems like in areas like Sandy Springs that one can only get a 1980s home for that money.

Thanks

Well The single family housing stock in Sandy Springs was mainly built in the 70s and 80s... a bit in the 90s. Anything newer and you're giving up lot size or paying for it.

This is a pretty active forum you might want to give more details of what all you need/looking for

Check out the top thread, "Moving to Atlanta soon?."

answer these questions:

1. Budget
2. House/Condo/Townhome?
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)
4. Children(public school vs. private)
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.

Definitely answer lastminutemom's post - but not going on much more information, you can get a very nice home in Smyrna that meets that profile.

What type of home are you expecting for your money - square footage and lot size?

I'd say Brookhaven.

Snellville off Ronald Reagan parkway...great schools, wonderful homes. Do a search in that area online. There is a huge hospital in the area and the physician impact is noted. People underestimate how nice that area is...easy access to the city, MOG, and Buckhead.

Thanks for your replies, everyone.

I've seen many beautiful homes in Marietta that are about 25 miles from Midtown, but from what I understand of Atlanta traffic, that's a one hour commute.

It depends on where in Marietta and what time of day you will be commuting.

Again, we need more specifics.

The homes I see seem to be in north Marietta near Roswell. I'd be commuting for a 9 to. 5 job.
