+5 for you, guy!
SO many of the naysayers don't factor in that this is merely phase one of the streetcar. For now, it serves a very limited area, BUT this is but a TINY link in the overall chain that it will be when complete. In case you haven't already seen it, take a gander..

That being said, I'm not going to condemn the city and everything it does just because of that.

Yeah, the City of Atlanta can't do anything right. What a joke of a city!

I mean, look at their falling population! Wait a minute...

Oh, well, look at their deteriorating economy! Wait a minute...

Never mind that, look at their sky-high third-world crime rate! There are people being shot, stabbed, and mugged left and right! Theft everywhere! Gangs roaming the innocent streets of Buckhead! Atlanta can't even police themselves correctly! Wait a minute...

Well, how about that corrupt Kasim Reed? That guy needs to be in prison! I mean, look at how he's turned the city into a corrupt mess and failed to do anything about the budget! He even wants to ask for a bond issuance to repair the city's infrastructure! What a loon. Can't he see that the city's bond rating is in the toilet?! Wait...

How about Hartsfield-Jackson? It's owned by the city of Atlanta, heh, check out that inefficient mess, there are delays, layovers, outages, and accidents everywhere you look! Atlanta can't even run its own airport correctly! Wait a minute...

Besides, if Atlanta can't do anything right, why are places like Druid Hills trying to get in? I mean, DeKalb's not doing well, but Atlanta does everything wrong, so why are they trying to be annexed by the city? Turn back now, Druid Hills, before it's too late!

LOL.
Atlanta is no different or worse than any other major city

It'll run and be just fine. When expanded, it will serve Atlanta in a significant way. Is there. Better way to have used our resources? I dunno, but I do have faith that the street car is a pretty good way to use the money. Just let it get up and running and see how it does before condemning it. Heck, I thought the Ferris wheel was a colossally dumb idea. Glad I was wrong.

Not sure what the delays are? Are they waiting on federal approval, if so that's not something the city can control. Is it safety issues, if so I'm glad they are waiting and working out the kinks.
This is phase 1 of an eventual city wide system.

They're waiting on the go-ahead from the FTA.

Why isn't FTA signing off?

Earlier this month in a letter (pdf), the FTA flagged “outstanding safety and hazard mitigation issues.” Reed on Monday wrote back (pdf) the issues had been taken care of and the Streetcar was ready for passengers. The FTA responded Wednesday (pdf) saying it “remains concerned that numerous safety-related tasks have yet to be completed.” It also said there was a need for a “realistic” master schedule.
As someone who's worked with the FTA as part of my job, they're notorious for dragging their feet on regulatory approvals, so this doesn't really surprise me.

So what you are saying is that there is a possibility it may not be atlanta streertcars fault?

yeah - I'm confused. Why be embarrassed? the track is laid, the streetcars exist. obviously there is something holding things up, but it's not construction or purchase.

It's probably freakin' driver education. The only reason I am embarrassed for this city is the way people drive all retarded and can't wrap their heads around the fact that there is a big blue thing running alongside them. That isn't Reed's fault.
