I drove through there the other day and looked at some properties. Folks seemed nice, approachable, down-to-earth. Sure, you would run into a few homes that have seen better days, but it wasn't as though I saw homes with boards on the windows.

It isn't Buckhead, for sure. But I wonder if it is a good value, meaning, could you buy here for less than historic College Park, and have about the same police protection, halfway decent governance, etc.?

By the way, I don't have kids. My criteria are cheap, close to downtown, "neighborhood" feel, a pretty home with "character," and not too much in the way of crime. And I tend to think crime in places like Hapeville, College Park, and East Point are overblown.

Thoughts appreciated from those who live in the town or surrounding area.

It's a pretty cool area that's getting some new development. One interesting fact is that the city of Hapeville provides free wifi.

I love the area. We already have transit, 10 mins to downtown, 2 seconds practically to the airport. With all of the jobs moving into the city I really think the tri-cities have a chance to catch a wave of development in the next 10 years. Not to mention Porsche new HQ and the proposed airport city which could attract new business and jobs right in our backyard!

Exciting! I've always seen so much potential in the Tri-cities. I wonder what the holdup is...seriously.

People are still afraid of the area.

I LOVE Hapeville. A real, friendly, neighborly place and the original and best Chick-fil-a Dwarf House. The Hapeville Charter School gets high marks, too. Incidentally, short of the Rugby Avenue corridor in College Park, I feel as though it has nicer more intact neighborhoods, too. Especially o its northeast side. (Old Jonesboro Road corridor)

Don't miss Chapman Drug Co. A genuine old time pharmacy that has been in the same family for generations.

I work in the area, and frankly think that most of Hapeville is nicer than most of East Point. Try Café at the Corner sometime... Good place!

I'm friends with a couple that bought a newly built home on an established street there, and they love it. He works in Midtown and takes the train, she drives to Egleston.

They are friends with all of their neighbors, and are very glad they bought there.

Haha but jokes aside, I echo the comments other posters. That area is definitely a place to keep your eye on. With Porsche being the newest neighbor you can only expect good things for the area.
