I say put it to the taxpayer.

If a majority want to raise their taxes another 1% for 40 years and give the money to MARTA, so be it.

I would pay extra to fund this. My commute to and from work is ridiculous. 90 minutes of my precious time spent in traffic each day can be used more wisely and I would pay 1% more in taxes for that to happen.

No, there hasn't been any new news about this in the last few months.

It's quite a leap of faith to assume that "no one wants to pay for any of this".

If all the extra money was exclusively earmarked for capital expansion (at least for these projects), similar to the Clayton deal, I don't see this not getting any support. At a minimum, North Fulton legislators and business owners, Emory students and staff, south DeKalb legislators and business owners, CDC employees, the DeKalb and Fulton Chambers of Commerce, and GA 400 commuters would definitely support this plan.

Keeping up with the news about these projects over the last year or so, the biggest controversies I've seen involving these proposals are NIMBY-related: mode of transit (Clifton Corridor: HRT or LRT?) and what side of the highway the rail should be on (GA 400). I haven't heard much complaining about the mere existence of these proposals.

I'm sure MARTA accepts donations. Nothing is stopping you from paying them extra. Where do you live and why live there? 90 minute commute? You are doing life wrong, son.

Keeping up with the news on CD? This isn't the real world. This is an internet forum overrun with transit fanatics who live outside reality. No one is seriously talking HRT for that corridor except the "that sounds kinda cool" crowd on here. MARTA's last study on this corridor clearly showed that it didn't have the projected ridership to support even LRT let alone HRT.

Perhaps you should follow the real news closer. If you want some advice on how to do this, I can mentor you offline. PM me.

Buddy, you're the one who lives outside reality, if you think no one wants to pay for this. I want to pay for this, and then some, and I know plenty of others who feel the same. Please tax me more. Transit is needed and I want to pay for it.

Hundreds of thousands of people out in Gwinnett County want MARTA and would not mind paying the sales tax for it but aren't allowed to do so, because their "I'm still stuck in the 1950's" Republican leadership refuses to allow a vote on the matter.

I think MARTA should be a 2% sales tax, if it meant doubling the size and scope and reach of the system to where it needs to be, and upping the train frequency and making it a 24/7 service.

A much more livable city and metro, options for a hell of a less frustrating commute, saving money on gas, and the downside is my sub sandwich at lunch costs $7.56 after tax, instead of $7.49? Yeah, I'll take it. Sign me up to pay for more MARTA.

Im sure eventually the fair tax will be instated, so we'll see heavy tax increases on consumer items as well services - might as well go ahead and raise taxes now to get us used to the "feeling" ...
