I was beginning to think some people moved because they wanted to. Glad we got that straightened out.

This is bigotry at the highest level of the scale. Anyone is allowed to move into Atlanta White, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, red, green, purple, or blue. The mere thought that Atlanta 'has' to remain a 'black' city governed by black people is beyond absurd. What ever happened to Diversity? Do these people not realize that people like Dr. King gave their lives to end segregation but what they want is for Atlanta to remain segregated with African Americans in every position of power.

Sorry, but recent trends if they keep up are going to make it a long next few years for the Bigots and Racists of Atlanta city government.

Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? 'White' people just can't win no matter what they do. Always will be blamed for something.

Second, they are taking the stance that Atlanta "belongs" to black people and white people moving in are stealing it. No one is going out there dragging black people from their homes. The black people are putting their home for sale and a white person buys it - nothing nefarious there. Sometimes a white lower income person puts their home up for sale and a high ince black person buys it too, it's a two way street. Atlanta, of all places, has a huge black middle upper class and upper class. They are huge agents of gentrification as well.

Furthermore, everyone can agree Atlanta is finally getting better. Those dangerous neighborhoods are being replaced with safe, family friendly communities. That is entirely because trouble causing criminals are being pushed out, mainly due to increasing prices - white and black. The overall effect is very positive and I certainly don't feel bad about it. I mean, the guy in the article itself says the area around his east Atlanta barbershop used to be "the hood" but that changed. Are we supposed to mourn that? Are people supposed to be up in arms about the disappearing "hoods" and "ghettos" of Atlanta? News flash: no one wants to live in or near that and the crime that goes with it.
This clearly disappointingly effect Blacks Americans

But there a different between the black population decreasing from the city becoming more diverse they are not the same thing. Or a population being replace from a neighborhood becoming integrated. They are two different things.

Integrated means join, not replace.

The city shouldn't have to decrease over 30k blacks for city to become more diverse..... More Blacks, White, Asian, Latinos and etc all should enter the city, not blacks leaving and mainly white coming in...... One of the reason the City population was so off before the 2010 census. Is because CoA growth was offset by a significant population decrease.

Another thing if the city is 38.4% white and 54.0% black, the white percentage increasing is not making the city more diverse. The city needs more Asians, Latinos and etc. 80% of metro growth are minorities but most of city growth is white. Gentrification slows minority growth. And bring in largely upper class whites. That's why the city match doesn't the overall metro diversity.

People aren't up in arms "about the disappearing "hoods" and "ghettos" of Atlanta" What people want are the people in the neighborhoods to reach upward mobility themselves.... and that to be match with people coming in. Not people suddenly can't afford the neighborhood they grew up in. Another problem this is just moving poverty the hoods aren't disappearing it just moving from the city proper to making suburban hoods. Often in Metro suburban environments are worst for poverty because a lack transit.

This post right here says a lot the frame of thinking. The right wing wants blacks to be viewed as racist so bad they create false analogies.

Gwinnett whites aren't being force economically to leave. Nor is Gwinnett white population decreasing.

Here a metaphor for you should want Atlanta become a bigger melting pot and more of everything. gentrification is not becoming a bigger melting pot, instead of adding more of everything. it taking something out and putting something else. That's why gentrification is controversial

Stop it,

The Solution for this problem is more economic diverse affordable housing.

It is unclear to me who is going to build this more economically diverse housing. You cannot expect private developers to do so on a large scale if it means foregoing a larger profit. Sure, the city could pass regulations requiring them to do so, but doing so in a meaningful way will likely send the developer packing to another market. Should the government build housing? We all saw how that one turned out years ago.

Seems to me you're jumping to conclusions. The billboard's message is obviously one that is critical of a downside of gentrification. Theoretically, people of all races should be able to move into the city without displacing other groups but we know that far too often, that doesn't happen.

Replacing a population is segregation, there cases of gentrification where diverse neighborhoods turn white.

The problem is not about keeping the city black, but rather blacks staying apart of the growing diversity.

MLK last major agenda was to decrease the racial income inequality.

No, the solution is to quit looking for a 'boogeyman' to blame (that doesn't exist)

What is affordable to you may not be affordable to me. There will ALWAYS be someone who can't afford housing it is impossible to make it so everything is affordable.

Lastly, the double standards need to stop. It is ok for wealthy African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, Indians, etc. to move where they want. It is for some ridiculous reason NOT ok for 'whites' to move where they want. They are the only group who is targeted regarding 'gentrification'. Don't you find that odd?

The ideas being propagated in this documentary stop nothing short of advocating for Segregation and for one class of people to remain in power. I find that very bigoted and offensive. It needs to stop. It WILL stop.
