It’s all going into the pockets of corrupt Atlanta politicians.

this 2 trillion dollar relief plan will go down in history as the biggest boondoggle in the history of the world. 86 billion goes to union pensions that were in deep trouble. Dems threw everything they could into this. Unemployment? Majority of jobs lost during the pandemic were low paying, low skill jobs. Those people aren't even going to be looking for work until the state and federal unemployment benefits run out. That will be in September. Remember the last stimulus...More than half of the money from the Treasury Department’s coronavirus emergency fund for small businesses went to just 5 percent of the recipients, according to data on more than 5 million loans that was released by the government in response to a Freedom of Information Act request and lawsuit.

What a mess!

I'm unsure what MARTA did in leu of the pandemic, if they decreased the frequency of busses or trains or not and if they did so if it would have faired any better.
When you send money to government agencies (which is what this bill does as opposed to last years CARES ACT which was a huge corporate giveaway) you are aiding people.

Default The Gulch: Consultants line up for contract to rebuild MARTA’s Five Points Station

MARTA has started the process of transforming the Five Points Station into a transportation hub to serve the planned mini city to be built at The Gulch.

The station is to be fully functional by the time of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The station will be a centerpiece of mobility for the potential crowds if Atlanta is selected as one of U.S. host cities. Atlanta submitted its formal bid for the event in December 2020..."

Sounds like it will be a tough, drawn out process for the rebuild. It sorely needs the refresh.

It's past time we see some tangible benefits of the tax hike passed 5 years ago. We need an update on other station refurbishments, BRT (outside of what we already know about Summerhill's), and light rail extensions around the city.

i'm glad five points station will be rebuilt.

Coming from NYC after a decade that included 911, (there were several scary other instances like a steam pipe explosion in Grand Central that I experienced everyone running out of)....

I became always aware of the exit locations at places like 5 points.

But if something happened at the existing 4 point no one would be able to evacuate for several reasons;

1) Tiny exit signs lit with 80s bulbs get lost on the walls that have ads, different textures, they are virtually invisible at the appropriate doors.

2) The mall-like double levels with escalators do not give the slightest clue as to which one goes to the street in case you need to escape smoke, etc. I couldn't believe so little thought had been given to evacuation with all the subway bombings following 9/11. But it's par for the course here.

3) I like the brutalist simplicity of the marta stations because they are sorta timeless design, but wayfinding signage needs to be huge, and unavoidable to notice. Lives could depend on it.

I think the issue isn't necessarily the station itself, but that the surrounding area looks like a Scooby-Doo ghost town.

Default MARTA plans to offer 7 acres for riverside greenspace near Atlanta airport

If you’ve lived in Atlanta for years but have never heard of the Flint River, you’re probably not alone.

And that’s understandable, given that the Flint—albeit Georgia’s second longest river—has seen most of its headwaters buried and piped underground to allow for urban development in metro Atlanta, leaving it all but forgotten.

But now MARTA, of all agencies, is teaming with conservationists in hopes of changing that..."
