There are many lessons to be learned from his life. The house he built still stands and it's quite the "crib"..

I agree with Sandy Springs taking action though I fear where these places end up will be much more seedy than Roswell Road. Atlanta doesn't have much of a moral compass as a city.

I remember that Cher considered purchasing the Thevis house shortly after her marriage to Gregg Allman.

Thevis' wife was my neighbor in Dunwoody years ago. Perfectly lovely lady. I got the impression that Thevis was very much a family man that went to great lengths to shelter them from his 'other life'.

Generally every generation always push boundaries further than the last, for the time Flapper were consider rebellion and indecent coming off the Victorian era into next century. As stated in my last post if wasn't for juke Joints, honky tonks, and etc of that time Jazz, blues, Rock n roll, and country would not exist. infact Jazz early days it flourish because of the historic New Orleans storyville district.

We have tendency erase Sexually out of history, So when we think of Jazz we just think of the classy big ball room, and not the red light districts it came out off. In fact some of iconic early jazz Musicians like Jelly Roll Morton had their start at brothels far more shady then Modern strip clubs.

And later in the 20's as Jazz spread across the country it started to move more of classier clubs and ball room. And while it became classier the scene was still the young generation expressing sexual liberities that was un thinkable to generation before. And this was the time of speakeasys. Which existed because people got alcohol illegal due to prohibition. Historically we outlawed alcohol and that didn't go well at all. So basically you had young drunk people, expressing sexuality and listening to this new music all of which their parents didn't understand.

And not just stripclubs but nightlife in general, there a tendency of older generations not to think much of music and these places that people go to party and etc, but like it or not it's the organic culture of the city, their story of rebellion, their generation's Jazz. Cities like Nashville, Memphis, Austin and etc aren't more musically included then Atlanta they just have more organize night life cause their leaders thought about generations ago.

And As stated If people don't want it in there neighborhood they should approve a specific area for it.
You're onto something there about the art and culture that comes out of the seedier side of our nature. Atlanta's rap and R&B music scene is quite intertwined with the local strip clubs, with trap music literally driving the beat of popular music these days. I've listened to some local podcasts where music artists are worried about gentrification driving them out of the city. There was even an ordinance proposed prohibiting professional sound studios from operating out of homes, which is literally how every big music act out of Atlanta got its start.

Fraternity fun? C'mon lulz. Turns out all dudes like naked women and they've been around for 1000's of yrs.

I've been to many through the years. I went to one of the ones closing in this thread just three weeks ago after Braves game (only 1 of 3 were in fraternity).

On the surface strip clubs don't seem so bad. But in reality they are cesspools.

When you add in:

Human trafficking
Sex slaves
Narcotics
Prostitution

which 99% of the clubs have, I question whether they should exist.

I mean, what value add are they?

Nothing wrong with naked women if I'm married to them! However, I find it disgusting how porn-oriented our society has become. I'm not a prude - don't get me wrong. But, with the rapes, pedophilia, etc. we hear about daily in the news, our President saying vulgar things, etc. Well, I just think we need to take a look at what is healthy and what is harmful for our society. When it comes to strip clubs, I don't even know why they exist.

Based on what proof? If that's really the case then why not investigate them?

I don't buy the correlation between the bolded and strip clubs. Denmark has for decades been one of the most sexually liberated countries on the planet and the incidents of these things there is about nil.
It's when these establishments are used to front more illicit activities that we get in trouble.

Ugh, the sex-negative prudes have arrived to ruin another strip club thread.

“What purpose do they serve?”

What purpose does anything but food, water, shelter and love serve?

If you don’t like strip clubs don’t go - simple.

I have no problem with strip clubs existing.

I kind of feel like it's no big deal for people to go when they are young and still curious about sex. It's also ok to do once in a while if you're hanging out with buddies, attending a bachelor party, on vacation, or whatever.

But I think men in their 30s or 40s who go all the time are pretty massive losers. By then, you should be a lot more sophisticated and have figured out how to deal with women in your normal life instead of having to pay them to be around you. And if you haven't...you should at least visit massage parlors and pay women who will actually service you instead of tossing around money for a giant tease.

I'm sure the dancers highly prefer the college aged, 20-something customers, too. They'd never say it, but I have to believe they're rather creeped out by regular customers.
