I think part of the problem with strip clubs is that some people think they are "seedy", or not family-friendly, or that they could have a negative effect on a community.

Even progressive people fall victim to those prejudices. For example, I mentioned Decatur the other day, because it is generally regarded as our Number One liberal, granola-ish community. You'd think they'd be out there on the barricades, fighting for tolerance, freedom of expression, and the empowerment of women.

Yet to my knowledge they have done nothing to bring in strip clubs. Likewise with big mixed use developments like Aerotropolis, Atlantic Station, PCM, Avalon and Colony Square. Even the hip intown neighborhoods won't go to bat for strip clubs.

We put the knock on Brookhaven and Sandy Springs for not embracing strip clubs. But what about the rest of the ATL? Seems to me it's about time for folks who believe in the diversity of the big city urban fabric to get up on their hind legs and scrap for strip clubs -- before they succumb to food halls and sidewalk cafes.

Nail on the head. This is Atlanta - it's got a long history of low class vice that needs to be celebrated. Each of the 30 shoe box mega apartment structures being built around town could have a club next to the same fake, but decorated Irish pub on the ground floor. I wonder if the mountain bikes in the apartments are real or decoration on the fake patios of these places.

Atlanta could then claim it's the 1st or 2nd or whatever of strip clubs, like it does with everything else it's very secure about.

Personally, I think it's dumb and a little bit of bad juju whenever someone tries to inflict their own moral beliefs on others...

If you don't like the clubs in your neighborhood, fine. But for those that do want to partake, it's unfair to them to for the accommodations for them to close just because you don't like it (especially when you don't even partake of it yourself).

I think Atlanta should have a red-light district for this kind of stuff, then this wouldn't be a problem...

I remember reading about how once upon a time, Atlanta passed a law following the destruction of Slabtown and Snake Nation, to keep the city from having a red-light district by forcing the clubs to not be able to cluster together into a district.
Bad juju, cause the result ends up being they had to spread out... into "your" neighborhoods.

Bring back a new Snake Nation and Slabtown that isn't surrounded by residential zoning...

If it were up to me, I'd develop the large lot on University Ave, just east of Metropolitan Ave into an area specific for night-life and entertainment. Isolated enough to not annoy residential areas, and large enough to have a pedestrian only street running right through the middle housing several (maybe 10) adult clubs, a large casino or 2, several bars and night clubs for all different types of music, several parking structures and 2 development specific police precincts and a slew of security kiosks. And the best part, it would be along the belt-line allowing tourists, and partakers to even visit without driving in & out of there. They could park elsewhere and ride the (hopefully one day, eventually) Beltline light rail there. It would make it a money making destination for visitors and locals alike. Neon lights, beer, music. Being isolated, easier to police. Easy to get to and easy to leave.

Oh, yes the belt line. Strip clubs on there would be the ultimate Atlanta tribute. While other places look to such things as community and civic drivers, Atlanta can be the number 1 city with vice on it's community trails. It would indeed distract the no doubt let down tourists.

A true leader in urban planning and no one would ever catch up. Let Dallas worry about it's families, Atlanta is ready to get crunk.

lol what, you think people in Sandy Springs don't go to strip clubs? Ever been to cheetah? Where do you think all of those rich, upscale white dudes live? Certainly not in the city of Atlanta.

I don't agree with the premise of this but it is one of the funniest posts I have read in days.

I'll be honest - I have far more of a problem with busy-body bullies who want everything to be "family friendly" and think their **** doesn't stink and think the neighborhood should revolve around them and their needs, than I do with strip clubs. They act as if those of us who don't have kids don't have to put up with them and their **** just as much as they have to put up with us. And I'm NOT a stripper, mind you, I don't work in anything related to adult-entertainment. But I know the types who love to police the industry (and anything else outside of what they want) VERY well and my experiences with them have left a bad taste in my mouth, far worse than anything I've experienced from the people they're constantly trying to shut down and oust.

Where did I say or imply any of the contrary?

They don’t belong in a residential district imo. That was my point. That and making sure you understand that SS and ATL are two different cities.
