Sorry to be so harsh. but I really only consider it a part of metro Atlanta at all in the narrowest sense. Unless you're just not bothered by these things or are specifically looking for a non-big city or a rustic small-town Southern feel, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.
There is nothing wrong with worshiping Jesus as long as you do not force other people to obey your view of God. Douglasville does have a fair share of people that wear Jesus on their sleeves. They even have a "Christian" car dealer at I-20 and Hwy 5 that has church in the dealership and Bible verses on an electronic sign out front. It is a private business so I don't care but when they start telling me how to live, I have a problem with that. Sin should not be illegal.

No, Douglas is in south Georgia, while Douglasville is close to Atlanta.

No offense, but shouldn't you know where a town is before you move there?

Default huh??

I have been to Douglas only a few times but my Aunt died and left me her house. I was planning on a move anyway because tired of Pleasantville. I thought maybe you southerners had another name for Douglas. I'm not totally gone, yet.

Douglasville is more like a suburban area in Alabama than it is the rest of metro Atlanta. Afterall, it's about halfway between Downtown Atlanta and the state line. If you're familiar with Alabama, you'll know what I'm talking about.

If you want a "nicer" area than Douglasville in Atlanta's far western suburbs, I suggest Paulding County, which is just north of Douglasville and Douglas County.

I lived there for eight years. When I left and moved to the northside, my son had to take remedial courses to catch up, even though he had a 3.5 grade average in Douglas County.

Douglasville is improving, but it's still got a long way to go to catch up with the rest of Atlanta. I wouldn't do it again.

The better schools tend to be south of I-20. There's a charter school here that's doing well--Brighten Academy.

Not a whole lot of crime in comparison to the rest of the Metro.

Honestly the area is kind of 'live and let live.'

Housing is quite affordable. There are extracurriculars to put your kids in-karate, dance, soccer, football, etc. It's a straight shot to the city for nightlife, and a decent distance from the airport.
Brighten Academy... that is the school we're going to make every attempt to get our son into when he is ready for kindergarten in the fall of 2011. As for the town, we've lived here about 2.5 years and I like it okay. Would be much better if they had more mass transit out here but that's more about Georgia than it is this town. It can get crowded on the weekends with the mall and all of the other stores and restaurants but I'm starting to learn ways around that. The public elementary school closet to us(North Douglas) rates low thus why we're targeting the charter school. Don't know about the religious aspect because I'm just not that involved in the community in that way. Maybe that willchange when our son starts school. The services are okay except there have been a couple of occasions where there was outright failure to collect either our garbage or recyclables.

We tried to get our son in Brighten--he's on the waiting list.
We're zoned for N. Douglas as well, and that is NOT an option. We're waiting to see what happens with school choice this year--I'd be okay with Mount Carmel ES, and Chapel Hill (longshot!) Our final option is to have him go to school in my feeder pattern--I teach in West Cobb.

My son is turning 4 in June and will b e attending the Pre-K program at his current daycare. When do you think we should attempt to get his name on the list for Brighten for the Fall of 2011 when he will be 5.
