We did when we went and had fun crawling through the cave.
Did not even know there was a cave

Went through the 'cave' (it is some kind of fissure in the rock) many years ago. Very cool, both figuratively and literally. Not for the claustrophobic...quite a bit of crawling and squeezing, although there are some wider areas, too.

Not many of the wide areas...

Mike, if you go again you should look for it. The rangers will not tell you where it's at so you do have to search a bit.

I live in houston and after taking a western road trip to las vegas and california I returned through highway 90 and big bend country, it really is beautiful. Some of it is desert but once you are in the mountains it changes quickly to forest and creates what many call sky islands. you tube the chisos basin for some great video of big bend national park. and google cattail falls. I have also been to colorado I have family there and the biggest difference is snow and easy access but there are three areas of west texas where once there you really cant tell the difference except for no snow and less people. Big bend chisos basin, guadalupe mountains mckittrick canyon/the bowl, and davis mountains nature conservancy, not the state park

west texas has many jewels you just have to know where to look, in colorado there are signs everywhere for attractions such as seven falls and garden of the gods, grapevine hills is similar to garden of the gods, but unfortunately the many waterfalls in the mountains of texas are privately owned including the states highest, however cattail falls is in a forested canyon and is really pretty

It would be interesting to see these places in the snow (but a little scary).

There is a very rare snow storm poised to suppoedly hit West Texas this weekend, and I say rare because of the severity of it (maybe worst in 10+ years).
El Paso is currently under a Winter Storm Watch (how many times have we seen that in Nov), but El Paso unlikely to stick. However, in the Guadalupe and Davis mountains, they are predicting up to around 8 inches in the peaks, maybe even a foot. They say 3 inches on Monday, but then even more on Sunday night, add the two together and maybe a foot at the highest points (very rare).
However, snow forecasting in Texas is a joke, it might not even snow at all, but probably will snow at least 2-4 inches in the higher peaks.

PRECIPITATION WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY AS THE UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM APPROACHES. THE AIRMASS IS EXPECTED TO BECOME SUFFICIENTLY COLD FOR A WINTRY MIX OF RAIN... SLEET AND SNOW POSSIBLE ACROSS THE GUADALUPE AND DAVIS MOUNTAINS... UPPER TRANS PECOS REGION AND THE WESTERN PERMIAN BASIN... WITH SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE TO THREE INCHES POSSIBLE SUNDAY NIGHT.
ANOTHER CHANCE FOR SNOW WILL OCCUR MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY AS THIS THIS WINTER STORM SYSTEM PROGRESSES. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS UP TO TWO TO FOUR INCHES... WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE MOUNTAINS... WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS MUCH OF WEST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY. PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE DAVIS MOUNTAINS AND ALONG THE INTERSTATE 10 CORRIDOR MONDAY NIGHT.
