is CL the best source? before we commit to a house or apt, I'd like to have a place to land and shower so I can go to work. I can then take some time to look for a good fit.

Extended stay places might be the best bet. Is this just for you and a spouse? or kids, as well? How much space do you need?

The rental market is very, very tight in Austin right now, so an extended stay hotel, executive relocation apartment or a "vacation rental" like VRBO would seem to be your best bet.

www.airbnb.com is another good place to look for short-term rentals. We've used them three times on vacation.

we used VRBO (or was it airbnb?) to find a short term rental. Both are very good, though your mileage may vary based on the renter. We found a small furnished house for 3 months with 2 bedrooms, wifi, and cable. You pay somewhat of a premium, but the cost to turn on utilities yourself, etc isn't worth it for such a short timeframe. Be aware that you will NOT find anything for F1 or ACL weeks

And for the benefit of those not in the loop yet, ACL Fest dates this year are October 4-6 and 11-13. F1 is later.
