Well, it is not only before 7am, it also hits that in the middle of the day during odd days during the summer, usually when the temperature is a little lower. It is...odd...if you are not used to it. When I worked in Freeport during college, there were some co-op engineers from NM and CO. The first week, they all were assigned to work half days. The other half of the day they went home and just tried to live long enough to acclimate . Ofc, that was coming from areas where <10% humidity is the norm, but it was still very hard for them to function for several days....

Houston's gross, everyone agrees. Those who don't, have been living in the sewer so long they don't smell the stench. If Houston had half the humidity, then I'd be way more receptive, but it doesn't............. But if I were looking to move to Austin or Houston, and I were actually considering Houston, because I was a Houston-type of person, I would definitely move there and NOT AUSTIN... ;-)

I'm from Austin, have lived around the state, only lived there a few years not that long ago, so was not "used" to anything.

The exaggerations on anything ranging from the whole place being a swamp to the whole place being like Channelview or Baytown, are not just outright wrong, but idiotic as well. Sorry. I don't know if you and like-minded actually believe this, or just like to bash and fib for the fun of it.

^SO you're saying that close to 100% humidity on a daily basis is tolerable for you?! I sweat after walking outside in Houston in less than 5 minutes. In Austin it's closer to 30 mins before I start to sweat. That means I can run my errands and do my thing in Austin and not sweat when I walk from a parking spot to a building or back out to my car etc... That's acceptable and tolerable to me. In Houston that is unrealistic. Like other posters have said you can see steam coming off the road and your shades get fogged up. It's atrocious. I think you're in denial about the miserable humidity... It does feel like a swamp!! Same thing with NOLA. It's called living on the gulf coast. Its nice to be a couple hours inland, so that the humidity is drastically reduced. It's not like Houston has great beaches and so you need to be close to the beach. but hey agree to disagree. You can live in denial or maybe you actually like it.... Everyone I know can't wait to get to Austin on the weekend to get a break from the swampa$$..

I hate to throw actual facts in here, but Houston's average humidity is in the mid to high 70's.
Austin's average is what, 7-10% less?

Climate Information for Austin*-*Texas*-*Southwest*-*United States*-*Climate Zone

Yes, one is less, but come on...
Reality is, the heat index is similar in both.
The argument is a little bit stupid.

I have. Houston is not as hot as Austin. But it feels worse in the summer because the humidity lingers throughout the day while in Austin the humidity drops noticeably as the day progresses. Austin afternoons are hot and relatively dry. Houston afternoons are "moist."

Only in Houston have a I walked out of an air conditioned building with glasses on and had them fog up.
^^^ What he said... 7-10% on the averages is a huge difference in comfort level.
Houston---------------------------------------------------------------Austin

Again, averages don't tell the whole story. Also, consider that a few percentage points makes a big difference. Click on the NWS webpage and compare the two. Right now it's 87 in Austin with 53% humidity for a heat index of 90. in Houston, it's 90 with 59% humidity and a heat index of 99.

come on what?

Houston summers are absolutely more miserable than Austin's, which are plenty miserable enough.

The thing about the high humidity in Houston is it's unrelenting. The heat holds through late afternoon early evening whereas in Austin you catch a little break then.

Austin isn't as humid as Houston, but its not that much less humid and the hotter temperatures kind of make up for the humidity gap between Austin and Houston.

Texas in general is just HOT. Period. All those "feels better", "more comfortable" claims is just preference. Hot is Hot. I sweated just as much walking in Las Vegas, NV as I did walking the Kemah boardwalk in Houston.
