Hooray! Glad you came back to update. I was worried about you.

My spouse's company is laying off today. I hope we squeak through. Keeping my fingers crossed.

There is no way around the WARN notice in regards to bigger pay-outs. It is what it is. However, there are multiple ways to get around it for employers who really don't want to get the bad publicity.
I read the Fact Sheet and was wondering: If the employer tells the employee that the "severence package" is his/her "warn notice," is the money paidto the employee really the employer's way of paying the penalty up front?

Re Whether the WARN notice can be part of the severance.

My old co did it so that you were still employed, getting health insurance, accrued vacation, etc. for the notice period of the severance. After the notice period was over, you got your lump sum severance. IF you got another job before the built in notice period was over, they gave you the cash value of everything.

Just to update: we survived! Hooray. Wage cut is still effect so it is still frugal living at our house but at least the disaster plans do not have to be put into effect.

Grats on surviving Central. I was in that position about 1.5 months ago with a mass stealth layoff at my place..I survived the cut. With this economy though..I figure there may be more cuts this year so I'm saving and cutting back expenses...just in case.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Well Wood you can double up on the spending and take my place
Me..I'm worried about my job so I'm saving. Not that I spent much to begin with..I'm just cutting back more and simplifying my life. No more "plastic pumpkins" as they say.
