Shhh. Just ignore it. Pretend there are only 2 ADH, it will be ok.

Yes, there is a distinction. Tim and Carrie sold off the franchise rights, so they only personally own the ones listed on The Original Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (plus maybe the new one at Circle C?). The others listed at Alamo Drafthouse :: Main Page are owned by various franchisees, some of who will do a good job at original events, some of who won't.

I wonder when they're breaking ground on this. I haven't noticed any construction. There are so many great old oak trees there-- I hope they save as many trees as they possibly can. Having said that, having an Alamo there is fantastic for southwest Austin.

But why Circle C? I just don't see the point in putting something very funky and "Austin" right in the heart of Southwest Austin's California Republican enclave.

That's a pretty big brush you're painting with there..
And, if you think Alamo is still "very funky and Austin" well, hang on to that dream...
Cheers

Well, it's the corner of slaughter and mopac so it's not right in the heart, it's at the edge of the development. And there are plenty of Obama stickers on cars down here - I for one am a libertarian but have voted for both Rs and Ds and live in Circle C.

What does an Obama sticker have to do with the Drafthouse? Are you saying conservatives don't go to the Alamo?

As you can see Chuy's has been a big failure

Perhaps the Alamo didn't do their homework on demographics. I guess they don't realize they are about to open a theater in a area that is full of California republicans who don't go to movies.

And we're getting a P-Terry's in SW Austin too.

I think all of us funky, cool central Austinites from the 1980s had our funkiness temporarily interrupted by offspring. I like Central Austin, but with two teenage girls, it's suburban living and a minivan all the way. And the HEB at Circle C is the best in town for grocery shopping, especially compared to the HEB at Oltorf/SoCo.

It was the birth of our second, who was born at home in the corner bedroom of our house on Newning Street in Travis Heights, that prompted our migration toward the dark side, and evil suburban living in uncool, uninspired South and SW Austin homes.

We do have a mental red X on the calendar for 6 years from now when we'll be semi-retired empty nesters in our mid 50s. And we'd love to be back in the '04 in a charming old house with hardwoods, and once again walk to places we enjoy. But right now, being a Mom and Dad is priority, and we'll be happy partons of the new Draft House, P-Terry's, and we've already eaten at Chuey's several times.

Steve

I totally agree with you Steve. Any idea of where the new P-Terry's is going?
