Brisbane is nice but it's really bogan. This alone would be the #1 negative feature of Brisbane. Added to the total bogan population are hoardes of Kiwi bogans who have moved there.
Adelaide might be a better choice ....especially if they are foodies and like the countryside.
Sydney if they have heaps of money and love the harbour
Melbourne if they like a bit of European culture and want four seasons
Perth if they are beach people and don't mind more bogans plus all the nouveau riche
Tasmania if they don't mind worse weather than NZ

And I agree with your comment about Brisbane. I found it a soul less hicksville full of feral people. The downtown area is pretty dump-like and the suburbs are 'little boxes on the hillside and they're all made out of ticky tack'. Horrible place.

Only selected brisbane out of the two that Mini suggested. Partly to stir him a little and secondly due to work opportunities.
if I had to pick anywhere in Aus, it would be Melbourne. either inner city or sout/south eastern suburbs...
Job opportunities might be better in Brisbane than Adelaide. Isn't S.A. a struggler, not much better than Tassie? Pretty sure I read that S.A. suffered more than flood-stricken Queensland, economy-wise.
Actually the best economy is WA, Canberra and Vic. With SA following.
Mining is set to boom up past the Flinders Ranges. But frankly they've been saying that for years. LOL.
But the OP is a pilot so I think he can pretty much live in any city.. correct me if I'm wrong ScooterP.

I think Brisbane is a good place to raise a family... Adelaide would be as well.. however, I just feel like I'd prefer Brisbane over Adelaide.

Well we need to get you wine tasting during the day and finish the day eating fresh SA oysters with a nice chilled Reisling afterwards as you watch one of the festivals. And it won't be sticky humid.

Funny you said that. I had 3 friends from ADL move to Brissy. One native Aussie the other 2 were immigrants from France and Toronto.
All 3 thought it (Brissy and Qld) were a tad more bogan as well. But all 3 were foodies and we would do wine runs to the Barossa once a month to stock up for the month.
I'm sure the job ops were better in Brissy, but I dont know anything about aviation jobs.

I'm not a fan of Brisbane with what I have seen. The Gold Coast isn't really impressive either. I always said in regards to the GC, if Orlando or Vegas is your type of paradise, you'll like the GC.

I think Adelaide is a good compromise for those that don't want the massive metro areas of Sydney or Melbourne.
South Australia I think has a lot on offer and next time I go back I plan on spending more time exploring the state than I have in the past.

I am an airline pilot, currently with American Airlines…flying International on the 767. So yes, I can live just about anywhere. My wife's career is slightly more limiting with that regard…she is a English teacher (with her Ph.D in medieval studies). She's taught at the secondary and the University level.
For this move (which we hope to be our last), we want what's best for our family FIRST…then we'll tie in the jobs accordingly. So "if" we migrate to Oz (still TBD I might add…as we are just as inclined to stay in the states), I could (in time) slide over to fly for either Qantas, Air New Zealand, or Virgin Australia (who has a hub in Brisbane).
As a pilot, life is always much better if you live in the area that has the hub you fly out of…you are home a LOT more (better for family life).
