This was at the peak of my racing days and I had a camerman in the car to verify the speed as well as the GPS. It all started because someone called BS and said it couldn't be done.
I hit the top speed, coasted down to a more reasonable 120 and then used the brakes to catch the exit ramp and headed to my friends house a couple miles off the ramp and spent a few hours there just in case, lol.
A couple of things:
1) Please tell me where you drive because if you are still pulling this kind of idiocy I don't want to be within 50 miles of you. I also have family I love and care about out there on the roads.
2) What kind of "racing" did you do?
3) You used your brakes to "catch the exit ramp"? From 120?
4) Someone called BS so you did this? Please see my post in the thread on "skilled vs. stupid drivers".
Really, Goat. Less macho and more common sense. This is how people end up dead. Seriously.

1. I am in no way shape or form still driving like that and it was a very rare occurrence when I did.
2. My racing experience has run the gamut from driving schools to drag racing to road courses (Friday At the Track events, aka FAT's) to spending a couple seasons competing in the SCCA spec Miata class to autocross events. I started taking performance driving lessons when I was 17 and hit my peak with actual racing in my early 20's. For the record, yes I dabbled in street racing as well.
3. I let the car coast down from 176 to 120 before I used the brakes to slow myself down to normal speeds and then took the exit ramp. I'm not daff enough to think slamming on the brakes at 100+ is a good idea if it can be avoided. The car I was driving outside of being an actual performance car was also heavily modified from the engine to the suspension and brakes. The car and my abilties were well within the capabilities of doing this.
4. Like I said, I was heavily involved in the racing scene and the street scene. An argument turned into a challenge, so I did it. I never said it was smart, just said why I did it.
Like I said, this wasn't a normal occurrence and now looking back on it (this was 7 years ago) I do realize how stupid it was. I feel that I did it as "safely" as one possibly could, but I certainly wouldn't recommend repeating it and would most likely never do it again. I stopped most of my racing outside of some occasional drag racing on test and tune nights when I had my son. When my second child came along, I sold off the last of my "toys" and have been contentedly shuttling my kids to events in a plain old sedan or minivan ever since generally not exceeding the speed limit by more than 5mph.
How fast is a NASCAR? I'll be driving one next week
Until then probably the fastest for me is around 140-150mph.
Depends on the track and which series you're asking about, but they can get to 200 MPH. If you're doing a NASCAR driving experience, you won't get close to that. I think the max for any of the companies doing it is less than 170.
But that is terrifying if you've never gone that fast. That outside wall comes up within inches of the car, which itself is slipping and sliding quite a bit. The G forces are pushing you sideways and down, again depending on the track. It is a visceral experience that has few equals for most people.
What did you expect to find when you opened this thread? Seriously, bitching and moaning isn't going to change anything, its human nature to push the limits.
