Everyone posting in this thread who is American:

Note we are paying $5 a gallon right now in Toronto. I went on Houstongasprices.com, those bastards in Texas are still paying $3.50 a gallon. I'm sure most others with the exception of LA and NYC pay the same. So cry me a river guys!!!

And if gas prices do reach $5 a gallon, we will probably pay $7 a gallon!

I think we will get to $5 by the end of march. $3.79 today. It is going up about 10 cents every night.

Yup, it was always like this. In the 90s though when the exchange rate was 60 cents US to $1 CAD, it made sense, but times have changed, and jacked Canadian cost of living to insane proportions.

It's one thing that really hurts Canadians, and if America ever assimilates us I will definitely welcome them with open arms!

I don't care if gas goes up to $5 personally, I have a small car that gets good mileage. I feel sorry for the people in big trucks, SUVs, construction vehicles, etc. that have to pay that amount for gas. But people will continue to pay that amount, all while complaining (even my husband complains!).

You WILL care when everything you buy goes up in price because it takes oil either to make it or transport it. Personally, I think $5/gallon fuel is inevitable and it probably won't stop there, but saying that it won't affect you in way more ways than just when you fill up your gas tank is naive in the extreme. It's going to hurt everyone's material standard of living--plenty.
