I drove the RX350. I thought it had a very soft ride but it wasn't smooth in terms of accelerating. It felt like it dragged a bit and that it lacked power. I thought the RX450 was much smoother but even that felt a bit heavy at times with significant body roll during turns. Overall, it's a beautiful car. I really want something with more of a sedan like feel. I heard the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 come very close to that.

Why do you care which one I think rides best. If I told you a poop sandwich is the best tasting thing on the planet would you try it? When talking about how car drives and rides its something that YOU have to experience. Drive them both, and buy the one you like the best.
I never understand these "what car to buy threads" Who cares what any one else says or thinks. Buy the car that you like and you are comfortable driving
Why do you care if I want opinions from other people? If you don't want to provide one, get off the thread and stop responding. And do you really think people are not going to test drive these vehicles prior to buying them? Intelligent people assume this is the case and recognize we just want more opinions to make the most educated decision possible.

The X5 is getting a major overhaul for this Fall, so I would wait on that for sure, although the deals may be flying to get the "old" model year off the floor come 2014.
I prefer the X5, overall, to the Q7, though have never owned a Q7, but have driven them a few times, and have been a passenger in a few as well. The X5 handles very much like a BMW, which is why some people I know have complained about the firmness of the ride, but it's athletic for its size, whereas the Q7 has a heavier feel to me. Of the two, I would pick the BMW; however, I would shop the Mercedes ML as well because you can find smooth performance as well, though with the V8 option.

So you want something that has the weight and ride height of a truck, doesnt have body roll, but yet feels like a sedan with a "smooth and comfortable ride"?? Good luck... you already sound like you made your mind up.
X5. It handles like a BMW. That sold me, the others in this class weren't even close - except the Cayenne. It's a close second for me but I didn't like the interior.

It's pretty simple, if you can't offer advice on one of these two vehicles or recommend another vehicle, don't waste our time. Hopefully this concept isn't too difficult for you to understand.
If I needed a fast minivan I'd get the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, it has an awesome interior too. For fuel economy and towing then I'd get a diesel version.

The Grand Cherokee is too small. There is not much room in the backseats. The SRT is fast but it has a sports suspension and doesn't offer a very soft ride. It's really not a minivan but a larger sports car. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Q7 or the BMW X5
