Road construction areas will temporarily lower the posted speed limit. GPS won't always be up to date on such things.
Maybe it would not need to be if the cars were driving themselves. Workers may not have to fear a sleeping texter doing 85 through a work zone any longer.
I can't imagine it's hard to install a front camera that can read SPEED LIMIT 55. Black on white background. Would be no different than license plate reader.
I think it should be a optional thing. If someone wants it implemented on their kids car or their own fine

Local governments will lobby to kill this tech for fear it will destroy their revenue source! No more speeding ticket money!!
Although I wonder if the tech really needs a camera to read road signs. My GPS is already programmed with speed limits. The car could know the speed limit through it's own GPS.
Good. Someone needs to bring sanity to our out-of-control car culture. 'Bout time
As a car fan, I disagree. How would you like it if your passion and hobby was legislated out of existence just because someone else didn't like or understand it?

Im a big car fan. I worked for a car magazine in the late 70's and early 80's. But, I stand by what I said, car culture has spun out of control. It's not binary. You can have responsibility and nice cars.
