This summer I am driving SC to MA and I am dreading it, boring....boring. Why am I doing it you ask? Playing in a golf tournament and it is the easiest way to be sure I have all my equipment with me as my equipment always stays in my car.

About 1K miles and I will spend a night on the road going and coming. Like to do 600 miles first day, 400 the 2nd day. Big, comfortable car (2017 Ford Explorer) so that makes it a bit easier.

There was some rule long ago that half the fasteners on US cars had to be metric by a certain date. I had a car where the valve covers had every other bold metric and SAE. I do not know whether some idiot took the half thing literally, or they were trying to make a statement. It was stupid.

When I work on a car, I usually use metric and SAE sizes interchangeably anyway. Can't find a 1/2" socket? Just use 13 MM. It is close enough 99% of the time. Sometimes with an old rusty bolt the metric equivalent will fit and hold where the proper SAE size will not.

What really drives me nuts are screws. Some are Phillips #2 some are the other Phillips, some are slotted, some are hex and some are torx. Then of course you have all kinds of different sizes for each.

I only get bored driving when I am doing the same route day in, day out. Like school and activity trips for my kids. These times I feel more like a chauffeur than anything else. But it must be done and comes with the terrority of having four kids.

For example, here was yesterday's trip:

- 3:30-4:00PM: School pickups
- 6PM: Drop daughter #2 off at Girl Scouts. Drive 25 minutes.
- 6:30PM: Drop daughter #1 at play practice. Drive 25 minutes
- 7:00PM: Pickup daughter #2 at Girls Scounts. Drive 20 minutes for two errands, one for MIL
-7:30PM: Depart for MIL house. Drive 20 minutes
- 8:00PM: Depart MIL house and head to play practice to pick up daughter #1. 25 minute drive
- 8:30PM: Depart play practice and head to home. Drive for 25 minute drive.

Yeah that wasn't so fun and when I got home I was zapped. But if I was driving on the Pacific Coast Highway with the windows and top down, no I wouldn't be bored.
