Of all the snow days they have had so far this year I can't beleive they haven't cancelled Bangor, Brewer, Orono for today. All the places such as courts, SS office etc are closed and 12 inches expected.

Even the university at Orono is closed. All banks in Lincoln were closed by 1 PM; the credit union is closed and most stores are closed, but Mardens in Lincoln was OPEN!

I wonder if any other state runs their state like ours by referring to their local discount store's storm policy?!

Good...Mardens is in business to MAKE money....all the state can do is spend it. It would be a pity if some schlep couldn't sign up for welfare today. Maybe they could apply for a JOB at Marden's instead.

Legislative hearings have nothing to do with anyone appplying for "welfare". Public assistance is done at the town/city level.

Governor LePage: "If Marden's is open, then Maine is open."

When winter storms cause cancellations, state employees have a new rule of thumb for showing up to work.
"If Marden's is open, Maine is open." That’s the word from Governor Paul LePage, who says he won't be quick to shut down the state because of snow. LePage says he'll keep an eye on weather reports and recommendations from his emergency management team. The message - state workers should expect to be on the job, unless they hear otherwise. LePage kept state workers on the job until 3:00 last Wednesday when several counties had a foot or more of snow.
