If the 2 losses in Tampa Bay had been by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 instead of 11-5 and 16-1 the Yanks would not have a scoring deficit of 9 runs. Would the P.T. now consider them unlucky to be 11-8?
Kind of an obvious question, isn't it? If the numbers were different, the calculations would of course be different.
But the numbers were the numbers, the scores were the scores. We calculate things on the basis of what actually happened, not what could have happened.
There was a 4th error in that play, one by Detroit. Waving Kinsler home was idiotic, he was going to be out by a huge margin. Only the bad throw saved him.
The hell of all this is that none of it was necessary. It was ball four, there was no need for Conger to get the whole circus act started by throwing the ball.
Rookie Tigers' manager Ausmus has an "aggressive" base running attitude.
And the Diamondbacks just keep on losing. Even the Detroit papers are worried that Gibby may lose his job. Problem is.....GM Towers got rid of Dan Haren, Maz Scherzer, & Stephen Drew.
Come to think of it, Towers may lose his job first.
Towers should be the one to go. Look at all the young pitchers they have gotten rid of. Those 2 you mentioned, plus in the last couple years Tyler Skaggs and Trevor Bauer, who are both playing well with their new clubs. Instead he overpays for over-the-hill pitchers that may have had a decent year or two in the past (McCarthy, Arroyo, Cahill). In addition to the pitchers, they've run Justin Upton out of town and traded away another young outfielder in Adam Eaton. He also brought in Mark Trumbo, and although his homers are nice, he strikes out a lot and there really wasn't a spot for him on the team. There's no DH, 1st base is occupied by Goldschmidt, and the outfield is already full. He really isn't an outfielder anyway, and he's already shown to be a liability out there.
Holmberg was already talking about Gibby getting fired on his show this morning. Of course it's purely speculation at this point, but the chatter has started.

Towers couldn't stand Upton, but got a "likeable" guy in Prado. While I like Prado, he'll NEVER have the batting numbers that Upton delivered. Hard to think that Martin Prado came here to AZ to end his career.
But, he was traded & that's the way it goes sometimes.
Letting Stephen Drew go created a HUGE hole, and I have to mention Scherzer again. Basically let a Cy Young award winner go for absolutely nothing in return.
I don't think Towers has one of the better baseball minds in the game, & it'd be sad to see Gibby pay the price for that. And to think: The Tigers expressed a lot of interest in him when Jim Leyland retired.
Could've sold a lot of tickets by starting Dan Haren every fifth day......way too many good players mentioned here.
Marlins and Braves recorded 73 Strikeouts in a three game series. Adding in another 12 foul pops, double-play forceouts and caught stealing, less than half of all outs (80/165) were batters retired on fair balls put in play.
Congrats to Albert Pujols on hitting career homerun 500 yesterday in D.C. I think Albert has a good chance to reach 600+ homers in his career if he stays healthy. The DH role will help out on his longevity, too.
Michael Wacha has struck out 9 in the first three innings. Seventh pitcher alltime to do that. They weren't consecutive, he walked the pitcher (Niese), who now has a BA of .000 and a OBP of .750.
(edit)
After 4 innings, Wacha has faced 20 batters, only 4 hit fair ball. 10 strikeouts and five walks, including two with the bases loaded.

Finally a non k out in the 4th. Wacha has already reached 82 pitches in the 4th with one out, so he isn't going to be around long enough to set any records.
What a Cubs-type ending to the Wrigley 100th anniversary game today. As I Diamondbacks fan, I'll take the W any way they can get it at this point, but they didn't win that game as much as the sCrubs lost it. I kind of feel bad for them, but really who would expect any less?
