I saw on ESPN that he won the coach of the year and I think it was a bad decision because we all know why the Bulls won 61 games. It was so many other candidates that could have won like Doug Collins, or Scott Brooks but to give it to a coach who team had the most wins is too easy. I never thought that award was about what team had the most wins but the improvement through out the course of the season. It's so hard to take that award seriously now days.
B) COY is kind of a silly award anyways. Quantifying what a coach does is so difficult, choosing the "best" coach is highly subjective. So I don't put much stock into it anyways.
C) Thibbs did a great job this year, he deserves it, but yes you can clearly make cases for other coaches as well

But that was because of Derrick Rose. Doug Collins took a team that was 3-13 to the first round of the playoffs. No that is more impressive than a team who won 62 games.

he took a team with the 2nd easiest schedule in the entire nba to a 41-41 record, that is not COY worthy.
the only team with a SLIGHTLY easier schedule went to 62 wins even with the 2nd and 3rd best players on the team missing half the season or more combined.

Did you watch any of the bulls last year? They won 41 games and Derrick was no where near an MVP. Does Thibbs deserve all the credit for that? Of course not, but it is a solid case on paper for best coach in the NBA - not to mention it was his FIRST year coaching, Doug Collins has been around forever.
