Another student housing focused apartment project appears to be moving forward in the Parkside district. This will look from I-65 and add to the density of Parkside which will hopefully attract more street level businesses.

I hope so, I certainly think due to its location it has that potential.

I like the infill and foot traffic that this will bring, Parkside is turning into a full blown neighborhood/district.

Remember the Southtown housing redevelopment is proposed to be several mixed use high rises and mid-rise towers as well. The crescendo effect is likely to follow.

Yep. Because, truthfully, not only does Southtown create an impoverished blot on Southside, but it also has a deadening effect for several blocks around it in terms of development.

Mind you, none of this is to diminish the argument for some kind of public housing. But Southtown is, in truth, the example of a failed public policy, essentially herding the poor onto reservations. A more enlightened way to deal with the need should be implemented.

So I've been working on a spreadsheet with a list of projects since 2013. It needs a lot of work, but feel free to comment/update:

*Note: I'm mainly focusing on projects in/around downtown Birmingham and nearby neighborhoods... haven't included suburbs yet.

One of these developers should consider a Skybar on either Red Mountain or near Railroad Park. Along with a 24-Hour Fitness.
