From the article on al.com:

The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has given approval for planning to begin on the first building in UAB’s planned Science and Engineering Complex.

The $64.5 million building, granted Stage I approval, will house the Biology and Physics departments, instructional space and labs for the Department of Chemistry, and will replace the current Education Building. Providing 115,000 square feet of classroom, lab and administrative space, the new building will be located on 14th Street South between University Boulevard and 10th Avenue South.

is it me, or has the 20 midtown site seemed rather... quiet lately?

https://app.oxblue.com/open/rgs/20midtown

the past few times I've checked the webcam, there haven't been any workers on site.

Yeah, it had a decent amount of activity from the end of July 2018 through mid January but has since gone dormant. It previously sat dormant for almost 1.5 years though so who knows...

Well, they finished the civil engineering part of it less than a month ago. Likely waiting to line up the construction crews, et al. There's a lot of construction going on in this town at the moment and there's just not enough workers to go around. It's kind of crazy.

If someone can teach me how to post pictures, happy to just do that, but wanted to pass along some recent pictures of Vesta in Five Points South:

February 2019 Update: Vesta in Five Points South - Build Birmingham

It is a large complex, not only with the 17-story high-rise, but also the 5-story building behind it.

Thank you for the response! I will look into Imgur. My plan is to have several posts a week and keep it pretty simple. Is there anything in particular you (or anyone else) would like to see? I have just seen progress updates as a niche that the BBJ / AL.com do not cover well. I hope to eventually evolve into more critical evaluations / thoughts on projects, but gotta start somewhere.

Here are the detailed instructions on how to post pictures:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/faq/8...ing-posts.html

Mod note:

The forums are discussion forums and not a free referral service to websites - especially (but not limited to) if the website owner gains revenue from that site in any fashion. That is "spamming" and spam posts are ruthlessly deleted and those posting spam are banned from the forums.

An occasional link to your blog, as an adjunct to your discussion of a subject is generally acceptable.

An example of acceptable linking is the way I linked to an old blog of mine in the "light rail" discussion. The discussion was primary, and the link was just to supply a greater depth of information. Direct copying of your blog content to city-data is also not allowed, as it runs up against the "No copyrighted material" part of the Terms of Service.

Evidently Target is going to make a big announcement tomorrow. The people who usually are pretty reliable say it's so hush-hush that even they don't know what it is. Given that Shipt just inked a big office space lease and is hiring a ton of people, I wonder what it could be?
