I finished Son and let me tell you. I don't think audio books work for me in every day life. I felt like it took forever to get through it. But it was worth it. I started The Amateur which is totally not what I would normally read but after reading the description I decided to give it a shot. It's from the library so if I hate it, it didn't cost me a dime.

Just checked on line and my library does have it, although not at my branch. I'll have to order it. Luckily I'm planning on going there today because they invited the humane society to hold several adoption events there and the first one of the season is today. Plus, I have a bunch of books due back today, better not forget them.

Audio only works for me if I am doing something that doesn't require my concentration, like a really easy knitting/crocheting pattern, pulling weeds, or sitting in traffic (which is fairly common, here). The story cannot be really involved for me, either. I have to be able to listen intermittently with long intervals between, and still be able to pick up the story when I come back. Details are not appropriate for my listening retention.

You sound like me. I've actually gone into the library, gotten my new books, only to come out and find my old ones still in the car! (And this is after conscientiously practicing Mindfulness for a few years, now! )

I hope you like "The Universe Within" as much as I did. I thought he just put all the pieces together for me so perfectly!

Started last night on Tim Winton's "Cloudstreet". He's a very good, but little-known Australian author, "Cloudstreet" was written 20 years ago. It seems funny to read books about people who do not have cell phones or computers.

At one time, I used to make trips alone from one end of the state to the other. I got some dorky romance story with a narrator who didn't real work for me, but I could totally listen then. But for something I'm really interested in - yeah, not so good. I seriously think I would have had the book read in 2 days even with my work schedule compared to the several days it took to listen to it. Once again, we have something in common!

I think I've read most of his books. He's one of my favourite authors.

I just picked up a used copy of this and thought I would give it a try. I've never read anything by him.

What did you think of it?

Thanks,

zugor

Well, this is embarrassing. I had to look it up online because I couldn't remember a thing about it. And having looked it up, it sounds vaguely familiar. I think I enjoyed it. I will check my bookshelves later and see if it is one of the books I kept or one of the ones I gave away and see if paging through it rings more bells for me. If I thought it was a hideously awful book, I think I would have remembered it more. It is the books that are okay, entertaining, but not great that don't leave much of an impression on me. But it was probably a nice read.

I couldn't have said that better, myself. I am so there with you!
