There are 8-10 specific sitdown places in the area that are good (though still slightly different from New Haven and NYC), but to pick up a slice at a random place on the street, there's unfortunately no comparison.

New York doesn't even compare to New Haven.

The pizza on Wooster St is really incomparable.

Having moved from NJ to Boston--no, it doesn't. But I like Pizzeria Rico and Al Capone's downtown for NY-style pizza. The Upper Crust chain is good if you like very thin crust, somewhat burnt pizza(which I do).

Not to say BOS doesn't have any good pizza, because they certainly do, just not in general like NYC. Note this line out the door at PR has been there for the entire 15 years I lived in BOS.

There is a great greasy cheesy pie in Mass called Greek pizza. It's not the official name, but if you talk to the people behind the counter that's what they call it. I love it. Most of the crusts here stink, but as long as the sauce isn't disgustingly sweet and there's lots of cheese, I'm ok with it. Just go to any (insert name of town) House of Pizza joint and that's what they usually dish out.

A lot of people around Boston like a place called The Upper Crust but I don't see what all the fuss is about. The crust tastes and crunches like an unsalted cracker plus it's like fifteen bucks for a pie.

The best pizza in the word is on the boardwalk at Seaside Heights in NJ, at Maruca's. It melts in your mouth and is heaven on a paper plate.

There is great pizza in Boston, but you have to look for it. The comment above about picking up a slice on any random street corner is quite accurate. You might hit the right spot, but chances are that you won't. I have Romano's in my neighborhood which is great, T. Anthony's where I went to school, Pizza Regina if I'm hanging with out of town visitors and want them to see the North End, Santarpio's in Eastie if I'm early to the airport, etc. But there is lots of bad pizza out there, too.

Coming from NJ the answer is No!
Although when we lived in Cambridge there was a small place at a corner near the Boston-Latin High school, across from a park. I think it was run by a gentleman from Mexico and it was the best pizza I ever had in the Boston area.
