Yes, love, equanimity, joy, and compassion (the Bramaviharas/Four Immeasureable Minds) are such vile, filthy things, aren't they? Wanting to end suffering in all the world is such a horrible idea, then why would anybody need Jesus?

You should watch a video interview or two of the late Ajahn Chan, or the current Dalai Lama, and tell me again that Buddhists are ailing and unrighteous. Buddhism churns out supermen, people who kill their ego everyday and think little of themselves, maybe Christians are jealous. Is jealousy a sin? It is in Buddhism.

Hell won't be so bad. Gandhi will be there, or so I have been told by many a Christian evangelists. So will alot of other great people. OTOH, who is going to heaven? Any good people going to heaven?

Is it any wonder that Jesus will soon wipe out and destroy all of Chistendom in his father's name ????????? With attitudes and beliefs as above, it's no wonder that the iron claw grip that once held Europe in bondage has rusted away. The missionaries of times past did nothing to help the so called "Pagan" peoples their European Kings exploited during the colonial era. Those who claimed to be the Christians murdered and butchered innocent people of unexplored far away lands.

Oh and to get back on topic from the original post: We all go to hell when we die. Well at least the biblical hell. Sheol & Hades only mean the grave anyway. Even Jesus died and went to hell according to the bible.

Nikk thats a very insensitive and ignorant thing to say. I can't begin to comprehend what drives you to insult others beliefs in such a manner but you lead people like me away from Christianity with such hatred.

Isn't it true that most Christians won't enter heaven anyways?
Many are called but only a few will pass.
I mean rich Christians will be denied won't they?

Lightbulb Do all Buddhists go to hell?

Of course not...

Hell is a place in Christian mythology. Therefore, it's reserved for those Christians who have failed the heaven test. Buddhists (and everyone else who isn't Christian) don't participate.

Thumbs down Do all Buddhists go to hell?

Hell, like everything else in religion, is based on belief. Since Buddhists don't believe in hell, they can't go there.

Many believers seem to spend their lives with the fear of hell dogging their existence. Or pontificating on how others are in imminent danger of eternal damnation if they don't join in lockstep agreement with whatever crackpot interpretation of outdated mythology they're clinging to at the moment.

What a miserable way to live.

Where in the world did you hear Buddhists don't believe in Hell ???????? They all have a belief of some sort of hellfire and damnation for others, just different descriptions as far as the details go. Buddhists simply believe in different Hells, but they do believe the evil people go there just like all the other religions do. It has never ceased to amaze me how many of today's religionist will quote the old flavourite scripture of "Judge not, that ye not be judged" (AKJV) and yet I've never met a one of them who did'nt personally know someone else who they say is going there.

I also agree that it is a miserable way to live life in fear, especially with many of the venomous individuals who spout off how they can't wait to see so & so down the street go there. Sad to say, but there is something about the modern day Christology that likes to spew the hate around when someone has a different belief. Certainly not the story we all are able to read about Jesus life and ministry. Even the "History Channel" actually did a very informative piece on this very subject. Basically it is a scam on mankind perpetuated by this world's religious leaders for grabbing power and authority over others. It always has been that way throughout history and with every single religion, not just one or two. They also showed where the belief was not originally Christian teaching, but a concept that was so successfully used by their Pagan/Heathen rivals for controlling the masses, that they adopted it for themselves. What can I say, when you serve spiritual "Liver & Onions" as the main dish and it's hard to swallow, you force them to accept by telling them God is holding a gun to their head.

The Buddhists' rough equivalent to hell bears very little resemblance to the Christian version.

Isn't the traditional idea of hell incompatible with the Buddhist
belief in the nature of suffering?

No.
Just like Christianity Buddhists dedicate their life to avoid hell by trying to understand why people suffer.
If I'm not mistaken to a Buddhist life = suffering = hell.
When they keep reincarnating instead of dissolving into the universe it means that they still have something to learn.
So a Buddhist aims to learn whatever there is to learn so he doesn't have to keep reincarnating.
