On this board, there are those who complain bitterly about the state, whether it is the government, business climate, unions, illegals, whatever.

I, and others I imagine wonder about this.

Again, myself, and millions of others, understand the state government has serious structural problems, but, so what? The sun comes up, and we go out and have a good day (with low humidity).
For a discerning person it doesn't require explanation.

You left out the middle ground. My wife and I were both "decline to state" fiscal conservatives and social moderates. That translates to "some of each!"

I rarely, if ever, complain about California. My reason is because I took it for granted and left and spent a 9-month stint in Hell. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to come back home to CA, thus, I thank God every single day I am here, and I never take it for granted. Sure, CA has its problems, but so does everywhere else.

I can't participate in the poll because not only do I not complain about the state, I am neither an extreme leftist, nor on the extreme right.

Maybe I'm not old enough yet to shake this off, but I'm an extremely cynical person from the get-go, so I don't really complain about California since every single place has problems. The only reason why California's seems so much worse is because of the size of our population and size of our economy. For so long, California seemed to be the forefront of the American dream, instead of its disaster incarnate. However, the rest of the US isn't doing too hot right now either (the 'best places' are simply doing the least worst), and even the poorest place in Mississippi seems like heaven compared to most 3rd world countries.

This is the internet. The very nature of anonymous posting on boards such as these makes it MUCH easier to complain than it is in real life. Most people, in my experience, find it easier in themselves to say something good rather than something bad about anything at the first glance. On the internet, you can say whatever it wants and it holds almost NO stigma outside the board you post on.

Most people in California, despite all of its problems, just live their lives like anywhere else. For every person that complains, there are 10 people who find something good and another 10 from elsewhere who want to move to California (adding to California's population and eventually problems)

I didn't vote here. But I will say I'm a social liberal, and lean a little bit slightly left (but more centrist as I get older) when it comes to economics.

It's interesting to see what kind of criterion people might hypothesize would parse those who are mostly satisfied with CA versus those that are not. I would look at first at social class and earning power. I would guess white-collar salaried professionals are happier in CA than blue-collar time-clock punchers.

Baloney, you made an accusation that does not hold water, for one second, but now that you made it, you run from it.

Apparently you think everyone who doesn't whine moan and complain is an elitist.

Holy smokes!

Brenda, I think there are plenty of blue collar who are happy, my friends are happy, and I don't have any friends that wear ties or pressed trousers to work.

The thousands of Bakos who go to the sand dunes every weekend with their toy haulers, big pickups and ATV's are as blue collar as one can get, but they seem pretty happy, course I would be happy too, leaving the Central Valley in the summer for the cool fog of the coast.

Sorry Bub. No need to run from an opinion 'cause it's just that and nothing more, just as yours are. If you think otherwise then you're delusional!

Here's another one. Your poll is slanted since it's an eithor-or.

I completely agree! Politics and economy aside, CA is still amazing and still stands out as one of the best nationally and globally.

Huh, Bakersfield and the sand dunes, did I say anything about the desert? Nah, don't think so.
