Feds: San Jose Panda Express made Hispanic employees clean toilets while Asian workers watched - San Jose Mercury News

Sad... comments from a high schooler :
"another signal that our country is becoming too balkanized. the indians do their thing. the asians do their thing. the mexicans do their thing. they are not interested in becoming american. it's been like that lately, i don't know when this balkanization started but it's real."

One of my very observations after coming to 'diverse' northern California.
*Just scratched Panda Express off my list of lunch time eateries.

I'm a little suspicious of their employment practices in general. I live in a county that's over 70% white and the Panda Express in Chico (with its huge student population looking for part time work) seems to have nothing but Asians and a few Hispanics working in it. Go to any other restaurant and the work force more closely resembles the community makeup.

No... It's something I never taken note of but see the same trends at lots of their chains ... I take very strongly against the balkanization I see here and the last thing I am going to do is give a business who engages in racist/discriminatory practices my hard earned money.

That's a good point when you consider how few asians there are in Chico anyway. Although Panda is after all, supposed to be a "chinese" restaurant.

But culturally, it seems like Mexican folks do seem much less "vocal" than some other groups, at least compared to their numbers. And one of these days, the Chicano population in this country is going to have another leader like Caesar Chavez, only on a national scale... and it'll be "interesting"!

I used to live in Miami, and believe me, the "hispanic" population down there (largely Cubans) has no trouble with "speaking up" (anyone remember the Elian Gonzalez affair that received national press?)!

It's brewing, and when ready, it is going to be served bold and strong.

I've noticed these same trends at Panda Express as well no matter where I have gone. I too and against this sort of "balkanization" and it's much more pronounced in SoCal.

Malcolm X had many unique and interesting observations, some were right on some were way off. In the latter category he imagined that those of Mongolic racial origin, being fellow POC, would be good partners in the quest he mapped out. Little did he know that the discrimination leveled on Blacks and Latinos by at least some Mongolic folks would far exceed anything done by Whites since the 1960s. Whites since the 1960s have largely become very good citizens when it comes to discrimination (sure there are few hold outs but most fellow Whites consider them to be freaks).

Just calling them as I see them.

Based on numbers alone Asians can't discriminate on the same scale as Whites. Asians only make up a small percentage of the population.

Are you suggesting that there is a higher racist percentage among Asians compared to Whites? Are 20% of Asians racists towards Blacks and Latinos, whereas only 10% of Whites are racist towards Blacks and Latinos?

Yes, that is what I am suggesting. Not in terms of the exact percentages but in terms of general characteristics. This is an insider's perspective. I have been part of many Asian family groupings and social circles.
