Oh. I thought there might be a particular fish or shrimp or something that relies on that pool for it's life cycle. /shrug

I found this interesting vid about the delta:

Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta: 150 years in 100 seconds - YouTube

Our prediction for high temp today is 81, and no rain in sight.

Yep, vernal ponds are extremely important for many amphibians as they often prefer to breed in fish free water.

Now under 5%. Possible rain this week may regrow it a bit. We'll see.

The possible rain I mentioned now looks probable. Nonetheless, the system in question looks like it will be one and done. There is a chance this could be the last for this season. We'll see.

Time to brush up on all my drought tactics.

It managed to rain a little bit here overnight. Not sure on the measurement though.

Looking at the US Drought Monitor.

The entire state is now at least in the yellow (e.g. Abnormally Dry) category. That undoubtedly extends past the state line into the Pac NW but less severe the higher the latitude.

About 1/2 of the state is now in the Severe (light brown) category.

Currently there is no hope of the storm door opening within the forecast period (6 days) and beyond that the less accurate forecasts show nothing. We are running out of runway for the current water year.

Granted we have some decent storage due to the runoff during the Fall and the first week of Winter. But unless we have a normal or better than normal water year for 2013-2014 we will be in trouble fast.
