I haven't lived there, but Barstow looks pretty bleak. Not sure how it measures up in the other negatives mentioned, though.

I've driven through and stopped in Barstow many times on my way to Las Vegas and I've always wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. I can usually find redeeming qualities in just about any place I visit. Barstow isn't one of them.

Well some like the desert and then being close to SoCal and the beaches and close to Las Vegas as well.

Not where I would want to live, however.

I like the desert. I would like being close to SoCal. I also would like being close to Las Vegas. I wouldn't like being in Barstow.
