For all of CA That All of CA is 3% Urban. 97% is not. If you want to live in the Bay Area or Anaheim then year the 400K median price applies. I live in CA and the median home price in my desirable, safe area is $170K. We have a lot of retirees here from the Bay Area.

COL is a third of the typical urban area of CA

Everything occurs in a context. The post to which Curmudgeon was responding was overly snarky, so he responded in kind. Can't say I blame him.

Than sell your ponderosa in Anaheim and go. Seriously, you don't like the politics of CA but you moved per your post from Palm Springs to Anaheim. After a quarter of a century in PS. CA has pretty much always been known as liberal state going back 40 yrs, you act like it is something recent.

You should have headed east out of Palm Springs, but instead you went further into CA.

You complain about things, but what action do you take? None I'm guessing.

There are people who get "stuck" in certain places as they have elderly parents to take care of who can't be moved that easily, or they're divorced with underage children and share joint custody and the ex won't go for them moving out of state with the kids. So they have to remain in a state for at least the time being due to a situation that is out of their control.

Doesn't seem from any of your posts you have any of these issues. You just like to complain about CA.

I have relatives in Phoenix who are sick of the intense heat after 10 yrs, yes they do complain about it, but they have a plan in place to leave AZ and move back east. They plan to be out of AZ within the next two years.

So even though they sound like a broken record when I talk to them, I let it go, because I know they're working on changing living in a state they don't like.

Why don't you?

Default What makes Los Angeles special

Yes, traffic is bad here, VERY bad. In fact, it's the worst thing about L.A., trumping every other disadvantage. But traffic is nearly as bad in many other cities. During the past ten years I have personally been stuck in horrendous traffic in St. Louis, Baton Rouge, Washington DC, and Atlanta. In almost all major cities, the traffic at rush hour becomes stop-and-go, even if one would not describe it as "horrendous".

Now having said that, the reason I am not tempted to leave Los Angeles has not been mentioned in this thread yet. And that is the world-class culture: The Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the many, many museums (not limited to art museums), the large number of art house movie theatres, live theatre, the many, many genuine ethnic restaurants, the lectures by noted authors, and so on.

Yes, other smaller cities have their symphony orchestras, their museums, etc. But it just isn't the same.

I am 70 and retired; one big advantage of that is that I can largely (although not entirely) pick and choose what times of day and what days of the week I will go to various things.

Perhaps only a small percentage of the population shares my interests, and that is fine. But L.A. is a wonderful place.

(A side note: Why is it that a discussion of the pro's and con's of a place so often turns personal? It seems to be almost as sensitive as religion and politics. I don't get it.)

Ok, well 95% of CAs population lives in urban areas. So when people talk about CA, you can bet they are talking about where everyone lives. Not tiny little no name towns no one has ever heard of with no jobs no one would ever move to

Then just say "LA" is expensive and sucks. You have a very limited view of CA. People move to where I live. They have jobs. And would never dream of moving to where you live. Have you ever considered being happy? Move now! Life is too short. And get your facts straight!

TWinter doesn't live in Montana. Full or part time. TWinter's probably never even been to Montana. But if he puts Florida as his locale, again, the mods get onto him that much faster
