But you live in Montana.

Weird that out of state people post on threads like this one.

We own a small place in CA. Part-time living. We own a few homes around the US. However, to be clear we have many acquaintances & colleagues that have moved OUT of CA and appear very happy. They went to AZ, FL, NV, WASH, NC, Tenn.

The tipping point for us happens daily, like yesterday we were stuck in 10PM 405 traffic. Stop & go for miles, breathing toxic fumes, people giving the bird(vulgar rude hand gesture). We even saw what appeared to be a large black woman bent down taking a sh*t on the side of the freeway, her BF tired to hide her but we saw everything. Crazy place.

Yes. You have a place in Florida. And also out of the US in Brazil!

Many people who move out for similar reasons as we did have never lived in more than one region or at most two regions within the state. That is there only frame of reference when they 'escape.' But if you really travel the state (the entire coastline, the Sierra range, Eastern Sierra and more), which is almost as large as the eastern seaboard, you'll notice a much greater range in environments, geography, population densities and diversity of people.

We moved to CO for cheaper living and to gain more wide open spaces. After realizing we missed many things we took for granted on the West Coast we relo'd back to Monterey which was a completely different experience than anything we'd been exposed to living in SoCal. We've got small town living with the ocean, trees and green all around. More open land than concrete and far fewer cars than anywhere we've lived before.

I understand if it's simply for more house with fewer dollars. Otherwise its hard to beat the great weather, West Coast, fresh produce, diverse cultures and geography (lowest and highest points in the lower 48), outdoor year round activities available, etc... My FIL and his wife recently retired to the Central Coast on a modest income and are very happy with their decision. If its crowds you are escaping that is easy if you move out of the impacted zones to more wide open spaces which actually make up a much larger part of the state as whole.

You are envious of those such as myself who have no need to roam the world to find happiness and satisfaction? Seek within. Smoke some weed if you need help. And I'd say you DO need some help
