How can one enjoy life when houses cost enough to make you fabulously rich in the 50s?

Like 2 different wings on the same bird of prey. Guess who the prey is.

I can't even take a vacation out of state without getting the willies after a couple of weeks. I enjoy traveling but am always glad to get home. I don't know if I could leave the state permanently (and be happy). There's enough variety here I shouldn't have to just to find a change of scenery and all this talk of "communism" is just laughable. I mean seriously, we're not even remotely close to it.

I left Orange County for the Phoenix. Both places have their pluses, but OC was becoming choked with traffic (the freeway system is somewhat nonsensical) and is horrifically expensive for first time buyers. We traded an apartment, two incomes, and the expense of a nanny for a brand new home in a nice area, and a wife that can now be a stay at home mom.

We're closer to feudalism than communism, the land owners control the lives of the renters aka peasants.

spoonman1 OH! A lot of folks have left. The only thing that remains for them is figuring out if they need more of it or less.

Foreign citizens can own property within 50km of the coast and 100km from the border through a "Fideicomiso" which is a 99 year bank trust. Title insurance is available as well. It's just slightly more complicated than a US escrow.

As for the comment about being killed. Baja California Sur is far safer than most places in the US. The peninsula is almost 1000 miles long and logistically not suited for any drug running. There are also 7 military checkpoints along the highway between CA and Cabo which is a 2 lane road with very few options to avoid them.

Edit: I'm also not leaving for any political reasons unless the Donald gets elected. At that point, I'll gladly help pay for a wall to keep him out.

Is this permanent or a second home?

You live in a beautiful area with 4 seasons very unlike Cabo.

My neighbors moved to New Zealand when Bush became president... they came back when Obama became President...

There were pluses and minuses... but, in the end they did come back and since they had sold everything with the move... needed to reestablish themselves.
