Using data from the FBI’s 2018 Uniform Crime Reporting Program, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed statewide violent crime rates to identify the most dangerous states in America. We ranked all states and listed them from the lowest violent crime rate to the highest.

14. California

There were 176,982 cases of rape, robbery, murder, and aggrevated assault committed in California in 2018, more violent crimes than in any other state. Of course, California is also the most populous state, but violent crime is still disproportionately high. The state is home to about 12% of the U.S. population but is also the site of about 14% of all violent crimes.

Despite a greater concentration of serious crimes, the state has a lower incarceration rate than most states. There are just 424 adults in California state and federal prisons for every 100,000 state residents 18 and over, below the 568 per 100,000 average across all states.
I honestly would have thought higher, but 14 is pretty bad. I can see these numbers getting worse in the next decade.

And you care because?

I'm sure you posted this same article in the top 20 states across the forum, right? Why only on the California forum.

True, but California is the 5th biggest economy in the world. We expect more!

Hey. In the spirit of “it’s just an internet forum” I bet a bunch of readers would enjoy knowing what the top couple violent crime states are, eh CR? And ranked #2, right behind #1 Louisiana, is ALASKA.

Quote:
2. Alaska

• Violent crime rate: 829.0 per 100,000 residents (the highest)

• Murder rate: 8.4 per 100,000 residents (6th highest)

• Incarceration rate: 258 per 100,000 residents (12th lowest)

• 2018 unemployment: 6.6% (the highest)

Alaska has the highest violent crime rate of any state. There were 829 reported incidents of violent crime in the state for every 100,000 people in 2017, more than double the national violent crime rate of 382.9 per 100,000.

Violence in Alaska is not limited to crimes committed against others. Suicide is also relatively common in the state. There were 25 suicides for every 100,000 state residents over the last five years, nearly double the 13.2 per 100,000 national rate. Additionally, no state has a higher share of firearm-related suicides than Alaska. There were 15.8 firearm suicides per 100,000 people in the state in the last five years, compared to the national rate of 6.6 per 100,000 people.
Saaaay ... wait a minute! That’s YOUR home state now you say, right CR? Boy, I bet you can fill us in and tell some stories huh!

What if people in Alaska are getting attacked or murdered by moose or polar bears?

Get in line if you don't mind spending over 1 million on a tiny 3 bedroom house built halfway during the 20th century or paying 3k on a tiny studio the size of a 2-car garage.

That’s not what the thread is about.
