Laughing at "Delta Plus". It's the new Coke Zero.

Here's the only quote worth paying attention to from that link: “Delta-plus is not the end of the story. Until more of us get vaccinated we’re going to have these reports of weird other Greek letters and combinations of Greek letters — we might even run out of the Greek alphabet,” Dr. Chin-Hong said. “It sounds like a broken record but we’re going to see these things pop up until more of us are vaccinated to kick them out of our communities.”

I have a bit of different opinion then you on the matter......

We need every reason to get more people vaccinated, not less. A concession such as yours, wrong as it is anyway, would undermine the entire cause right now.
The health agencies may not have said it directly, but their mouth pieces in the news certainly implied it was the magic bullet or a superhero cape, etc. People literally did not read the waivers they signed and just went off what they heard from people instead of doing their own research. That's why many are surprised by the boosters right now and why many who were vaxxed are having regrets about it. The only reason why vaccination rates, and key word being rates since the raw numbers went down significantly, is because people are being coerced into taking it or else they'll lose their jobs and can't participate in society.

This is all about control and because of how passive people were last year, not listening to scientists and doctors who were going against the mainstream narrative, there will be more lockdowns with more freedoms taken away. It's scaling that way internationally right now and has started to in the US. People said there'd never be vaccine passports yet here we are with multiple counties and cities implementing them.

All of this is going to accelerate pretty hard in the next 2-3 years before finally settling down. Just like the Event 201 "models predicted", but just a slightly longer timeframe.

I'd have gotten vaccinated when I did if the vaccine had been touted as only moderately effective.

Distrust is the main reason for people who aren't getting jabbed. Not my fault is benefits were exaggerated. Trying to hide that from them now would backfire. Either way, most of them will need to be coerced to do it. Or to see up close how damaging the virus often is, which is difficult because fatigue and pain cannot be seen.

If there's something worse than Delta coming, we're probably doomed for a while, unless the government wises up and makes leisure air travel a major hassle, and travel itself was one of the few things that motivated people to be vaccinated in the first place.

Dr. Fauci thinks that we should be aware of that possibility.

I don't feel the benefits were exaggerated at the time the vaccines came out. I think instead there were some unknowns. It was and is a given that the virus will mutate and produce varaints......but, knowing what the future variants will and which ones will be of concern is and was a rather unknown. I did feel and still feel the vaccine/s are our best weapon against the virus

On which part? my joke about the naming scheme or the quote from the infectious disease specialist making a similar one? Variants are normal with any virus and none of this is a surprise, even the variants of concern which end up getting named. The solution is to step up vaccinations and not dote on trivialities like subtle drops in applied efficacy (aka effectiveness) that were also expected. Back in March-ish, when getting a second dose of the two dose vaccines was still iffy and hard to schedule for some, known variants were already driving pfizer and moderna to look at second generation vaccines.

None of this is coming out of the blue unless we can't trust the CDC and WHO.

Same here and it was known at the time that there would be "break through" cases, asymptomatic spread and everything else indicating that there wasn't a 100% magic bullet being applied. If the agency which gave you your shot/s said otherwise, they should be publicly hanged. But I'm guessing they didn't and you received the exact same information I did, along with everyone else, which made clear that the vaccines aren't magic at all.

We agree 100% And this may be the first time we agreed on anything.

The piece below that one about boosters is even better.
