I got my first hybrid in 2016 and couldn't be happier. Maintenance has been next to nothing and I love getting 42 mpg. Gas may be pricey in the Bay Area but it's not like it's dirt cheap in Texas right now with regular unleaded at approximately $3 and Supreme at $3.50. A lot of Texans have a bit of a Sybil complex right now. They sit there and on the one hand claim that Musk is their new hero. On the other hand, they seem to hate electric cars in favor of their big 'ol trucks.

Contain your excitement at least a little. It's only San Francisco that's doing that. It's going to take some time for the rest of the state to embrace it. But, just like a skin rash, it'll spread, I'm sure.

Well, the good news is that I live in SF and my next car will definitely be an all gasoline one. Have 0 interest in hybrids and less than that in electrics. I did test drive a couple of Tesla - pure trash in every way save for acceleration. I'd rather have a bicycle.

What make did you buy? I'm thinking my next car should be a hybrid.

I picked up a used 2010 Honda Insight in 2016. It had 107k miles on it and the owner sold it for $7200. My mechanic said not to worry about the mileage because I should expect to get between 250k to 275k out of it. He also told me the maintenance was dirt cheap. He was right on both counts. I consistently get between 41 to 42 mpg. It currently has 213k miles and the maintenance has been nothing. No doubt it's been one of my best car purchases and if it collapses tomorrow, it was well worth it. Haven't had a car payment on either of our cars for years and the insurance is also extremely cheap.

I'm the type of guy that will drive a car until it won't and won't waste money on new cars or leases. I like having no car payments and minimal costs on insurance.
